A Community Healing after I.V. Tragedy

The Santa Barbara Response Network (SBRN) will be holding an appreciation celebration on Thursday the 12th to thank the volunteers who turned out to support the community in the wake of the Isla Vista tragedy.

SBRN is a grassroots community volunteer organization that offers psychological first aid Following the Isla Vista tragedy, SBRN opened up two compassion centers in Isla Vista and deployed compassion patrols to provide psychological first aid, supportive listening, and community outreach in the Isla Vista community. Over fifty volunteers turned out to contribute nearly 500 hours of collective time, supporting the student vigils and memorials, checking in with local businesses, offering tissues and a willingness to listen and help.

The evening will not only give a chance for the network to thank its volunteers, but provide them with a chance to heal as well. Appreciation and acknowledgement are integral parts in the recovery process, which is vital to responders. Joining the SBRN team and volunteers will be local elected officials and dignitaries, including Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider, and Supervisor Janet Wolf.
