Ensemble Theatre Company Presents THE LIAR A Zany, Clever and Enchanting Comedy

Ensemble Theatre’s Hit Comedy, THE LIAR, Extends Performances to March 3, 2013

Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara is pleased to announce that, due to popular demand and sold-out performances, its current production of The Liar will be extended. The production has received rave reviews. The Santa Barbara Independent called this clever and zany farce “highly entertaining, unceasingly funny.” The News-Press praised it for “one of the best comic performances in many a season … just stunning.” The production now plays through Sunday, March 3, 2013. Dorante, a charismatic country law student – and habitual liar – has come to Paris seeking pleasure. He falls head over heels for the beautiful Clarice, but mistakes her name for that of her best friend, Lucrece. His trusty servant Cliton, however, has one weakness: he must tell the truth. Contemporary playwright David Ives, author of All in the Timing and Venus in Fur, spins a laugh-filled modern twist on this classic French farce by Pierre Corneille. The Liar is directed by Executive Artistic Director Jonathan Fox.

Additional performances for The Liar will run from Wednesday, February 27 to Saturday March 2, at 8pm, and Sunday, March 3 at 2pm. Tickets for these added performances are now on sale at the Ensemble box office at 805-965-5400 or at ensembletheatre.com. Check out Ensemble’s Facebook page for more information and rave reviews from audience members.

Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara kicks off 2013 with the 17th century French comedy, THE LIAR. Contemporary playwright David Ives, author of ALL IN THE TIMING and VENUS AND FUR, spins a laugh-filled modern twist on this classic farce by Pierre Corneille. Performances for THE LIAR, under the direction of ETC's Executive Artistic Director Jonathan Fox, begin on February 7 and run through February 24. All performances are at the Alhecama Theatre 914 Santa Barbara Street.

Dorante, a charismatic and debonair country law student - and habitual liar - has come to Paris seeking pleasure. He falls head over heels for the beautiful Clarice, but mistakes her name for that of her best friend, Lucrece. His trusty servant Cliton, however, has one weakness: he must tell the truth. The Liar is a comic tale of love and mistaken identity set in the 17th century and told in rhyming verse. This witty, fun production, with its penchant for clever verbal fireworks and lively swordplay, features an extraordinary and engaging cast of eight actors.

Performances for The Liar run Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 and 7:00 pm, with a special Saturday 4:00 pm matinee performance on February 16. Youth tickets are available for age 26 and under for only $20.00 each. Subscriptions, single tickets and group tickets are available through the Ensemble Theatre Box Office at (805) 965-5400 or online at www.ensembletheatre.com.
