Record Breaking Ladies

Team Kalyra, the SB 4-women racing team, crossed the finish line Sunday June 20th at 3:48am, breaking the world record for the women 50-59 age group. Congratulations gals! Race time from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD was 7 days, 10 hours, and 35 minutes. They were supported by 5 vehicles and 16 crew members. The adventure took us through the 100 degree deserts of the southwest, a spectacular sunrise in Monument Valley, climbing Wolf Creek Pass in the Rockies in 20 degree weather at night, fields of mosquitos by day and fireflies by night in the Midwest, hurricane-like winds, rain, thunder and lightening in Kansas, and the endless rolling hills of Ohio and West Virginia. Jill Gass, Sonia Ross, Lisa Tonello, and Avalon Jenkins-Balker -athletes extraordinare, are our heroes, doing this to raise money for Girls Inc of Greater Santa Barbara. Inspiring girls (and women of all ages!) to be Strong, Smart and Bold.
