DUI Arrest Report

SANTA BARBARA, CA - 6/18/2010 - June 17th, 2010. The last DUI Round-Up was released May 13th. Since then, 34 more drivers have been arrested by Santa Barbara Police Officers for DUI. Ten of these arrests stemmed from traffic collisions, many of them hit-and-run. Another 2 arrests were reported collisions where the officers could not locate what the drivers had struck.

On 5/13 at 2:28 a.m., Officer Ahrens responded to a call of a robbery that just occurred in the area of 1046 Coast Village Road. He contacted a woman who reported meeting a man at a downtown bar. After drinks and conversation he offered her a ride home. Along the way, the woman discussed difficulty making her rent payment. The man said he was rich, would give her money, and put her up at the Biltmore Hotel. The woman said she was needy but not desperate for money, and showed him $400 from her purse. The man pulled into a dark, empty parking lot, snatched the cash, and pushed the woman out of the car. The woman called police from her cell phone as the suspect drove away. Minutes later, a Santa Barbara Sheriff's Deputy who had monitored the BOL stopped Eric Shawn Alexander, age 43, at Hwy 101 at Fairview Avenue, in his 1997 Mercedes. He was arrested for DUI, and unlicensed driver. Later, the missing cash was found: partly in his pockets, and partly discarded inside the police vehicle. After investigation, a charge of grand theft was added.

On 5/13 at 11:53 P.M., Officer Beutel, who works DUI enforcement, responded to the 600 block of Coyote Road on a call of a roll-over traffic collision. A Mitsubishi pickup was found overturned on its top. The driver, Joseph Colin Berrett, age 25 was arrested for DUI. Berrett said he was playing a drinking game with friends named "7-11 or doubles" prior to driving home.

On 5/14 at 10:11p.m., Officer Beutel stopped Betty Wong, age 23, at 700 E. Cota Street, in her 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse for unsafe speed. Wong was arrested for DUI, a male passenger for public intoxication.

On 5/16 at 2:04 at a.m., Officer Eccles stopped Jose Noel Garcia Bernabe, age 23, at 2300 State Street, in a white Pontiac, for having a headlight out and for running a stop sign at 30 mph. Bernabe said he was driving for his friend (passenger) who was intoxicated. Bernabe was arrested for DUI, unlicensed driver, and no insurance. The passenger was arrested for public intoxication.

On 5/17 at 2:50 a.m., Officer Burgard responded to a vehicle collision at the Milpas Underpass. A 2002 Infinity SUV had driven off the marked roadway and headlong into a 7-foot construction pit. The vehicle owner, Nick Lee Collert, age 32, told police a new acquaintance named "Jon" was driving while he followed behind in another car driven by friends. His story fell apart when the friends said Collert drove himself, and the Infinity's keys were found in his pocket. Collert was arrested for DUI.

On 5/21 at 1:54 a.m., Officer Little stopped Melina Sadie Caputo, age 23, at 400 Chapala Street, in her Chevy Cobalt, for rolling through a stop sign. Caputo was arrested for DUI. Inside her vehicle was a cornucopia of drugs including: Ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana, and LSD; plus an illegal knife. Caputo was also charged with possession of drugs and the illegal weapon.

On 5/21 at 4:36 a.m., Officer Ortega responded to the 500 block of Foxen Road on a call of a vehicle collision. Christopher David Lees, age 19 had crashed his 1995 Subaru into a parked vehicle. Lees was arrested for DUI prescription medication and no insurance.

On 5/21 at 4:49 p.m., Officer Gaston responded to 2550 Treasure Drive on a traffic collision with a possible hit-and-run driver. A black Jeep had crashed into a parked Honda Civic. The driver, Robert Powell Kingston, age 64 was located a short distance away, sleeping on a nearby porch. Kingston was arrested for DUI.

On 5/21 at 9:20p.m., Officer E. Beecher stopped Mark Dallas Southard, age 52, at 100 Santa Barbara Street, in his 2010 Ford Mustang, for brake lights out. Southard was arrested for DUI. There was a passenger in the vehicle.

On 5/23 at 4:36 a.m., Officer Little stopped Alex Andrew Luhrman, age 26, at 1100 Chapala St, in his 1998 Toyota Camry, for driving at night without lights. Luhrman was arrested for DUI.

On 5/24 at 12:20 a.m., Officer Ahrens stopped Robert Marcelino Dommeyer, age 28, at 100 W. Carrillo Street, for weaving over the center line and unsafe lane change. Dommeyer was arrested for DUI. A passenger hollered that he was the drunken guy, and that Dommeyer was the designated driver.

On 5/26 at 11:24 p.m., Officer Montag responded to State and San Roque Road on a traffic collision. Patrick White, age 22 rear-ended an Isuzu Trooper causing major damage. He was arrested for DUI then released to Cottage Hospital for treatment of injuries received in the collision.

On 5/29 at 12:25 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped John Sargent Barnard, age 23, at 300 E. Cota Street, in his Ford Mustang for a tail light out, brake light out, and rolling through a stop sign. Barnard was arrested for DUI, suspended license, and driving with an opened container of alcohol. There was a passenger in the vehicle.

On 5/29 at 2:12 a.m., Officer Gaston stopped Pete Lawrence Brumana, age 40, at 600 Chapala Street, in his Pontiac Sunfire, for driving at night without lights, and for tinted side windows. Brumana displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant. He was arrested for DUI, being under the influence of illegal drugs, and being an addict driver.

On 5/30at 2:12 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped Agnes Eisaghalian, age 24, in her 2010 Toyota Camry for driving the wrong-way down 1st W. Gutierrez Street. She was arrested for DUI.

On 6/1 at 1:00 a.m., Officer Klug stopped Keith Vincent Johnson, age 19, at 200 Oceano, in his 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, for unsafe speed and unsafe turn. Johnson was arrested for DUI. There was a passenger.

On 6/4 at 1:57 a.m., Officer M. Lazarus stopped Shyleen Nicole Sandoval, age 23, for driving the wrong way down 1000 Chapala Street. Sandoval was arrested for DUI and no insurance. There were 3 passengers.

On 6/4 at 8:35 p.m., Officer Hollis stopped Montana Diaz, age 36, at 1400 San Pascual, in his 2004 Honda Accord, for not dimming his high-beams. Diaz was arrested for DUI and unlicensed driver.

On 6/4 at 9:19 p.m., officers responded to 3790 San Remo on a call of a traffic collision. Witnesses reported that a Toyota Camry was weaving and driving erratically. They followed it to San Remo, where it ran up on the sidewalk and into some bushes. The witnesses watched the driver go into an apartment at that location. Police knocked at the door and it was answered by Jimmy Tsai, age 37. He appeared to be under the influence of prescription medications. Police recovered ‘a pile' of prescription pills from his living room. Tsai was arrested for DUI, possession of and being under the influence of medications not prescribed to him.

On 6/5 at 11:34 p.m., Officer Tonello stopped Dale S. Hutchinson, age 56, at 3300 State Street, in her 2010 Nissan Versa, for driving on the wrong side of the road. After being stopped, she and her passenger tried to quickly switch places in the car. Hutchinson was arrested for DUI.

On 6/5 at 11:48 p.m., Office Beutel responded to 100 S. Canada Street on a call of a traffic collision. Jose Ricardo Rodriguez, age 20, had crashed his 1999 Ford Mustang into 2 parked cars. Rodriguez was arrested for DUI, unlicensed driver, and no insurance.

On 6/10 at 2:44 p.m., Officer Hill responded to the area of 400 Montgomery Street on a call of a possible hit-and-run involving a maroon Mazda 4-door. Officer Hill located a matching vehicle and stopped: Jimmy Norberto Monroy, age 29, at 100 E. Pedregosa Street, in his 1994 Mazda 626. Monroy was arrested for DUI, unlicensed driver, and no insurance. The vehicle had signs of fresh damage; officers checked the area but could not locate a traffic collision.

On 6/11 at 1:44 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped Scott Mark Wells, age 21, at 200 E. Haley Street, for speeding and weaving. Wells was arrested for DUI.

On 6/12 at 2:04 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped Nathaniel Alan Reinke, age 32, at 900 E. Haley Street, in his 2002 Volvo for speeding. He was arrested for DUI, and for driving with alcohol in his system while on probation for a prior DUI conviction. There was a passenger in the vehicle.

On 6/12 at 9:36 p.m., Officer Beutel stopped Juan Antonio Nacianceno, age 29, at 300 E. Canon Perdido Street, in his 2000 Sierra pickup, for driving with tinted side windows and weaving. Nacianceno was arrested for driving under the combined influence of marijuana and alcohol. There was a passenger in the vehicle.

On 6/12 at 6:20 p.m., a hit and run was reported at State and De La Vina Street. A black Jeep Cherokee had rear-ended a 2008 Audi. Officers Bedolla and Williams were checking the area and became alerted to a citizen helping an impaired driver park his vehicle at 2000 De la Vina Street. The citizen encountered Travis Kelly Rosenblatt, age 31, who parked his 2001 black Cherokee on De La Vina as to be a traffic hazard. Unaware of the earlier collision, the citizen was trying to get Rosenblatt into the passenger seat and safely park the vehicle himself. The officers took over by conducting a DUI investigation. Rosenblatt was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run. He resisted efforts to place him in the police car, and tried kicking an officer in the head. A charge of resisting arrest was added.

On 6/13 at 2:21 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped Omar Mosqueda, age 21, at 300 State Street, in his 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, for weaving over the center line and running a stop sign. Mosqueda was arrested for DUI, unlicensed driver, no insurance, and driving with an open container of alcohol.

On 6/13 at 2:24 a.m., Officer Beutel responded to 1400 block of Chino Street on a call of a hit-and-run collision. A taxi driver reported that he was sitting in his parked cab when a 2004 Toyota Corolla with a flat tire came thumping down the street toward him. The Toyota side-swiped his cab, broke off the side view mirror, continued down the street, and then pulled into a driveway. The driver got out, went up a flight of steps to a residence, and then collapsed into an outdoor patio chair. The errant driver remained there until police arrived. Officer Beutel arrested the driver, Thomas James Rached, age 21, for DUI, hit-and-run, and possession of marijuana while driving.

On 6/13 at 4:56 a.m., Officer Little responded to the area of Bath and Arrellaga Street on a call of a hit-and-run collision. The suspect vehicle was a white van. Officer Little stopped Hector Herrera Montiel, age 35, at 1600 Bath Street, in a 2002 white Ford Windstar, with fresh looking damage. Montiel was arrested for DUI, hit-and-run, suspended license, and no insurance. Note that Montiel originally identified himself as his brother. Later that day, Montiel and his brother came in to straighten out the situation. Corrections were made and a charge of providing a false name was added.

On 6/13 at 9:58 p.m., Officer Hall stopped Johan Giovani Diaz, age 21, at 1st E. Ortega Street, in his 2006 Mazda, for making an illegal left turn out of City Lot 10 to Ortega Street. Diaz was arrested for DUI.

On 6/13 at 11:51 p.m., Officer Ahrens responded to 400 Bath Street to assist a CHP officer on a collision investigation. He contacted Rhonda Kay Snelling, age 54, who was driving a black 2006 Mercedes SLK280, with fresh looking damage. Snelling said she may have hit a black truck but could not explain further. Snelling was arrested for DUI. Officers checked the area but could not locate any object or vehicle involved in a collision.

On 6/15 at 8:40 p.m., Officer Thompson responded to 500 Anacapa Street on a call of an intoxicated driver. He found Diego Leporini, age 29, asleep behind the wheel of his 2007 VW, stopped at the Kiosk window for City Lot 11. The engine was running and the vehicle was in drive. Leporini sat slumped over; his foot on the brake pedal. Leporini was awakened then arrested for DUI and unlicensed driver.

On 6/17 at 1:18 a.m., Officer Beutel stopped John William Ehrhart, age 31, at 100 State Street, in his 2010 Dodge, for straddling the lane-lines, crossing over the centerline, and stopping unnecessarily at a green light. Ehrhart was arrested for DUI.

On 6/17 at 9:30p.m., Officer Gaston stopped Keeley Ann Godinez, age 27, at Hwy 101 S/B at Las Positas, in her 2006 Range Rover for tailgating another vehicle, and driving in excess of 80 mph. Godinez was arrested for DUI.
