Roger the Scanner Guy - 01/02/2010

Scanner report
updated: Jan 01, 2010, 3:00 PM

by Roger the Scanner Guy

Happy New Year! I was scanning the News Press this bright and cheerful first day of the new decade and read Wendy's article,"These are the good old days." I agree if you’re a zillionaire. Then checked out the local news. I heard about that "rollover crash on Gibraltar" on my little scanner and Edhat but what others did not mention is that the person that reported the crash was told by the driver of that accident to only notify "paramedics" and not the police, only if you’re a zillionaire can you get away with that.

I believe the young woman who wanted to dive off "Cold Springs Bridge" told her Brother that's what it said on the scanner and from what little bits I heard she was losing everything possibly a home but her car was repossessed a couple days ago, this is not the "Good Old Days” for her. Nor for the poor soul beating herself until she fainted. And it's about damn time the news in this town started reporting "The News." Isn't that what newspapers and reporters are supposed to do? Not backstab, gossip, and play games with people’s lives because you’re rich and you can. The good old days were when there was a little saying in the editorial section of the News-Press which stated: "Without Fear or Favor for Friend or Foe." And when the editorial section truly honored that statement those were "The Good Old Days." Happy New Year Everyone!

Wednesday around 12:10 P.M. There was some type of small fire on a property in the 1300 block of Danielson off San Ysidro. There was a structure fire response however once the fire department arrived it was determined to be minor and one engine was able to handle it. There was a non injury accident with vehicles blocking in the 300 block of West Carrillo, city police made a perimeter check in the 800 block of Lawrence avenue that must be a nice little camping area they check the area steady, there was a burglary to a vehicle in the 1700 block of De La Vina, an injury traffic accident between a bicyclist, and a pedestrian, then a man dressed all in blue riding a blue bicycle threatened someone at the Castillo underpants and rode off toward City College.

Fire alarms were ringing in the 700 block of Santa Barbara Street at the school district officers, but there was no fire, there was a suspicious subject hanging around Thornwood probably looking for a place to sleep. There was an unknown medical emergency behind the post office in the 3300 block of State Street. A Be On The Lookout from station 43, A Parent apparently kidnapped their child from New Jersey and was believed headed to Corona Arizona, the car a Honda CRV New Jersey plate UJG 94K, I have no idea why it was B.O.L.ed here maybe they want to see the ocean on this side first.

In the 300 block of East Cabrillo there were threats between a woman with a K-9 and someone else who wasn't mentioned the woman was shoved. There was an audible alarm in the 3000 block of State "front door" the responding officer checked it and said the front door was secure and cleared, another officer was on traffic 100 North Calle Cesar Chavez on a black Lincoln, a suspicious subject was selling magazines door to door, now just sitting on the corner of Del Mar and La Marina. (Something to look into concerning these door to door salespeople it used to be against the law to do door to door sales after dark if this law is still on the books it should be enforced.) I don't think all of these salespeople are all that interested in giving us a good deal. Right after that call one came through the Sheriffs department about another group of door to door salespeople.

I heard several of these people calling in requesting to speak to the Sgt. at the Sheriff's department, or to a supervisor for city police to speak with them about "Things that were supposed to happen on New Years Eve." I imagine they were reporting impending crimes, not predictions for the new year.

A man wearing blue pants and a blue plaid shirt in our County somewhere was threatening suicide, if your feeling blue it might be better to wear pink that's why I wear pink underwear. There was a 415 disturbance at the Marriot a 23152 drunk driver driving a blue Dodge apparently the fella drove from the "Hitching Post to the Marriot" drunk and someone wasn't going to let him drive anymore.

Bacara security was reporting a skinny guy 5'8 white male walking around their hotel sniffing "Laughing Gas" out of a can. There was a female transient walking down the middle of State Street from Canon Perdido with a grocery cart, there was a public assist for a car blocked in by another car in the 1400 block of State Street. In Morro Bay police and Sheriff's were searching for a young suicidal woman in her 20's driving a 2009 Toyota, blond hair blue eyes 5'11 180 pounds if found check the welfare and detain the woman has had prior attempts and has been in the hospital she was last seen speeding out of a parking lot in Morro Bay and is not answering her cell phone.

In the 1000 block of Coast Village Road a transient was aggressively panhandling in the parking lot. In the 300 block of Elizabeth "Gang Types" were loitering in someones front yard refusing to leave because they are mean and tough until the police show up then they will be running away crying for their Mommies, in the 400 block of State Street graffiti artists were performing their autistic feats of vandalism. There was a 911 hang up in the 1500 block of San Andreas, fire alarms ringing in a vacant apartment 1700 block of Oceanview, 1700 Via ave a man on a bicycle" Drained his lizard" perhaps if there were more public restrooms around here he wouldn't have had to hurt his little lizard like that. In the 200 block of South Canada there was a fall victim in the driveway, I don't know which tennis courts but someone was playing tennis somewhere and hearing voices they called police because they were concerned about recent burglaries in the area, I'd be more concerned I was hearing voices I don't think I'd call the police and tell them but then again the "last call" of the Evening came from a fella who called 911 just to report he was having a "Bad Trip" When are these darn tourists going to get it through their heads and report that to the Tourist Center, what's 911 gonna do? Send them a Black and White Taxi, and transport them to the Bacara on the Hill.

New Years Eve: 1:10 P.M. 20002 "Hit and Run" Hitchcock and Calle real between a Jetta and an Infiniti. This was an intresting call in the 4000 block of Vie Aye Ha "In the Rear" Sheriff deputies searching for suspects found acouple solicitors, "In the Rear" I don't know what they were selling but I do hope it wasn't their rear with all those deputies showing up to the 4000 block of Vie Aye Ha, "In the Rear" The name of the street might have to be changed to "Vie Aye!"

There was a suicidal subject in one of the buildings occupied by Brooks Institute, there was a code 40 down in the 1100 block of State Street, engine 6 was on an injury traffic accident in the Santa Barbara Bank and Trust parking lot at Cliff and Meggs involving a ped. and a vehicle.

There was a suicidal subject in the 300 block of 6th street in Solvang, a male in his 50's was reported to be beating a female in her 30's at the Valero Gass Station on Calle Real in Goleta, a suicidal man who had been transported to Goleta Valley hospital earlier in the Evening walked away but came back awhile later he probably went outside for a smoke. There was a code 40 drunk at Garden and Yanonali, at Bath and Arrellega a woman was assaulted by her boyfriend, there was a fire alarm at Home Depot and a fire, I'm hoping next week they have a "Fire Sale," as I need some things to make my little place pretty.

In the 1000 block of State Street there was a suspicious subject following a man and his Neice, in the 100 block of Citrus suspicious circumstances a neighbor called in reporting possible intruders knowing his neighbors were not home, I'm not totally sure they found anyone because the scanner went nuts. There was a 242 assault victim at a pay phone, then a vehicle rollover up on Gibralter, the one where the victim requested that only the "Medics" be called and not the police, hmmmm I wonder why?

Then someone who totally did not sound like a police officer was speaking on the city channel about these people "Greg, Jessica, and Jesse." Suspects in some crime what crime? I did not hear but it sounded like they beat someone up. Then there was a fella wearing a "Brown Hoodie" stashing bolt cutters in the back of a parked black mini truck in the first block of West Calle Morales, engine 7 was responding somewhere maybe on Gibraltar. There was an injury traffic accident at Micheltorena and Laguna a code 40 yelling in the middle of the street 900 North Milpas, then the call about a woman headed to Cold Springs Bridge, then Engine 4 was responding to La Cumbre Jr. High to pick up the driver of the accident on Gibraltar, there was a medical emergency in the 1000 block of Olive difficulty breathing, Sheriff's deputies were requesting back-up expedite on a combative female possibly the suicidal woman.

At San Pasqual and Cota there was a 415 disturbance, in the 800 block of North Milpas the Speedy Mart no longer called "The Stop and Rob" There was a aggressive panhandler harassing customers, at a hotel in Solvang there was a depressed subject who called in and wanted to talk, he was feeling suicidal. The city police ran a subject for "Wants and Warrants" the person had none but was on parole for rape. There was some type of disturbance at El Capitan State Beach, fireworks were being shot off in the 1600 block of Chapala, a transient with a shopping cart was refusing to leave the front lawn of the Santa Barbara Inn, there was a 415 domestic at the hotel Miramonte, another domestic at Voluntario and Indio Muerto, fire works up near La Cumbre, a report of a structure fire on Exeter Place.

As the clock slowly made it's way toward Midnight I heard "Shots Fired" just after I drifted off to La La Land after consuming sparkling cranberry juice, near beer, burnt salmon filet, lots of grilled cheese sandwiches chips, pineapple salsa, and cheetos the fireworks were coming out of me this morning. Have a Happy New Years Day Everyone, I'll pee you on Monday, Roger.
