GOLETA, CA...November 25, 2009 --- As some land management agencies declare an end to the 2009 fire season, officials at Los Padres National Forest are using this opportunity to remind the public of a Forest Order restricting campfires that remain in effect due to the ongoing potential for wildfire.
The campfire restrictions put in place April 10, 2009, remain in effect. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a campfire, stove fire, or barbeque are permitted only in approved recreation sites (see attached). Heavy forest fuel loads, Sudden Oak Death Syndrome, and persistent drought have dramatically heightened the risk of wildfire.
The Forest Order is aimed at reducing the likelihood that an escaped campfire could potentially threaten the millions of citizens that live in close proximity to the Forest.
Forest visitors are encouraged to contact local offices for specific information on each district.
Monterey Ranger District (King City - 831-385-5434)
Santa Lucia Ranger District (Santa Maria - 805-925-9538)
Santa Barbara Ranger District (Paradise Road, Santa Barbara - 805-967-3481)
Ojai Ranger District (Ojai - 805-646-4348)
Mt. Pinos Ranger District (Frazier Park - 661-245-3731)
This Forest order remains in effect until further notice.
