Weekly swine flu update

This a weekly update on the status of H1N1 flu in our County, including the availability of H1N1 vaccine, the number of new hospitalizations and deaths, and any other pertinent H1N1 related information.
H1N1 Flu Vaccine
As of November 13, 2009, the Public Health Department (PHD) has provided a number of H1N1 flu vaccine community clinics for high risk groups in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Solvang. We have vaccinated a total number of 4,063 individuals at these vaccination clinics. An additional number of individuals have been vaccinated through their private healthcare providers who have received H1N1 vaccine.
As of November 13, 2009, Santa Barbara County (PHD and private healthcare providers) has received 50,100 doses of vaccine. An additional 15,800 doses of vaccine are pending shipment. Based on the recent delivery of additional H1N1 vaccine and supplies, additional vaccination clinics have been scheduled and the groups eligible for vaccine have been expanded. Those eligible for H1N1 vaccine at future community based clinics include: • Pregnant women• All children 6 months through 6th grade (If the supply at the clinics appears adequate, the PHD may extend coverage to 18 years of age.)• Parents of infants 0 - 6 months• Healthcare workers
Children and adults through age 64 years with at-risk medical conditions should contact their healthcare providers to obtain the vaccination or receive direction on where to obtain it.
The next H1N1 flu vaccination clinics for the groups identified above are scheduled as follows:
Carpinteria Fire Station, 911 Walnut Ave., Saturday, 11/14/09, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Santa Barbara Earl Warren Showgrounds 3400 Calle Real Monday, 11/16/09 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Lompoc Public Health Clinic 301 North R Street Thursday, 11/19/093 :00 pm - 7:00 pm
Santa Maria Public Health Clinic 2115 S. Centerpointe Parkway Saturday, 11/21/09 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Santa Barbara County has had a total of 47 hospitalizations associated with Pandemic H1N1 flu as of November 11, 2009. The first of these hospitalizations occurred in mid-June of this year. This number of hospitalized includes six pregnant women.
The Public Health Department has also been operating an H1N1 flu information phone line where nurses respond to public inquiries in both English and Spanish. Between September 23 and November 10, 1258 calls have been taken.Questions may be directed to the PHD H1N1 Public Hotline at 1-888-722-6358.
