Los Alamos—The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a Garden Grove man for a violent attempted robbery in Los Alamos.
Just after 7:00pm on Sunday, October 11, 2009 the SBSO was alerted that a robbery had just taken place at a gas station on the 600-block of Bell Street.
When deputies arrived at the station, both the victim and suspect had left the scene. However, a witness provided a description of the suspect’s SUV.
A BOL (be on the lookout) was issued to deputies throughout the county. About ten minutes later a Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle matching the description at Highway 101 and Highway 246 in Buellton.
During the stop the male passenger was determined to be in violation of his parole. About the same time, the SBSO was notified that the victim, a 52-year old Santa Barbara man, had driven himself to a hospital in Santa Barbara for treatment of severe injuries to his face and head.
The investigation revealed that the victim was filling his car with gas when Hamm appeared and demanded money. Hamm began beating the victim when his request was denied.

Michael Lee Hamm (DOB 9/27/76) was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on a no bail parole hold. Hamm will face charges of Mayhem (203PC), and Attempted Robbery (664-211PC). The female driver in the SUV was not arrested.
