Holiday Parade 2007 - Holiday Parade 2007: Santa Hats in the holiday parade are one of the four pillars in the Grand Slam of counting, the others being horses in the Fiesta Parade, Dogs in the Dog Parade, and drums in the Solstice Parade. Yards Signs - Yards Signs: The dedicated staff went out to count the yard signs. We blue-lined the car, drove around using up non-renewable resources and emitting greenhouse gases, to survey neighborhoods all over town. Our sign-seeing tour turned into a marathon. We drove 26 miles in two and a half hours. 2372 10

Paper Cups - Paper Cups: In light of the upcoming panel on what is next of the newspaper, Ed thought that it would be a good idea to do a survey, establishing the baseline of where we are, usually a good place to start when you want to figure out where you are going. 2688 8

Fireside Chat - Fireside Chat: We went to the Mission. We were not there to pray that the fire would not come down the mountain. We were not there for spiritual guidance. We were there to count the number of people who visited the Fire Information Board set up for those seeking informational guidance about the situation at hand. 2255 2

Smoke and Mares - Smoke and Mares: The biggest concern regarding Fiesta however, does not involve guns or ashes. It is the precipitous decline in horses participating in our world famous horse parade. 2387 5

Ed Bares All - Ed Bares All: The dedicated staff went to beach to watch the change of season. Don't Blame The Dog - Don't Blame The Dog: After watching the 13th Annual Big Dogs Parade bark its way down State Street, we were hounded by a nagging question that itched like a flea underneath a nylon collar. The question was this. Is the Dog Parade a parade of dogs, or is it a parade of people who own dogs? 3478 6

No Frog Weekend - No Frog Weekend: Last weekend, there were three full days chock full of al fresco artwork at the Mission. It was the I Madonnari Festival, one of the things that make each Memorial Day Weekend memorable. Every year since Edhat has been around, the dedicated staff of edhat.com has gone to the Mission to inspect the chalk paintings for certain key elements and tally them up with chalk marks on a clipboard. 2848 add

Rose Garden Ceremony - Rose Garden Ceremony: There are 3,895 subscribers to the Edhat Daily Newsletter. Last week, we invited all of them to the Rose Garden to celebrate the end of March EdNess and honor the contest winners. Last year we did the same, and despite the fact that we were offering free wine, only seven subscribers showed up. This year there was no free wine, so we wondered if any one would show up - except for the winner that is. 3476 3

Plates Runneth Over - Plates Runneth Over: Yesterday was the fourth time in Edhat history that the dedicated staff of edhat.com drove around town looking for outofstate license plates. Cones of Silence - Cones of Silence: On Chapala Street the construction never ends, the Andalucia Hotel coned up the road for well over a year. Today, two mixed use developments have taken over that task. This week, on the block of Chapala between Figueroa Street and Anapamu, cones are being put up daily to block three of the four oneway lanes on the road, even though there is absolutely no construction activity to be seen except a small piece of equipment parked by the side of the road. 2737 1

Pool of Ed - Pool of Ed: The dedicated staff counted pools in a local neighborhood. The neighborhood we chose was in Goleta, the area bounded by Fairview and Patterson between Calle Real and Cathedral Oaks. We chose this particular neighborhood because it is filled with traditional suburban tract homes, wide streets where kids used to play, and lots of pools. We also picked this neighborhood because it is a rectangular region, one that is easy to keep track of on an online map showing satellite images. 2603 3

Way To Go! - Way To Go!: If you have ever been on the Cabrillo Bikeway, you know that the word way really is not the issue at all. Celling Out - Celling Out: Yesterday the dedicated staff of edhat.com was counting drivers on cell phones during the evening rush hour on the Carrillo Corridor. Ed thought that maybe at this time of day, when people are trying to hookup with friends, get kids to soccer practice, and figure out whats for dinner, they might be more inclined to forgo the stigma of driving under the influence of communication in order to make some headway in resolving issues in their complicated lives. 3181 3
