This event wasn't about PR, it is about helping the community. My family participated on behalf of a local company and sponsor but we wore the shirts because it's about caring for the community, not bragging about what your company is doing. There were over 1400 volunteers out there yesterday in the heat working all around town and doing a huge variety of chores. Unfortunately your daughter wasn't informed that the event started at Page Youth Center at 8am so they could give out shirts to everyone to wear. Maybe next year it will work out for her, it's such a positive event to be a part of, especially for the kids :)

My daughter received a notice about a day of caring at Bohnett Park. While this sounded like a nice volunteer activity for kids, there was no address and I'd never heard of Bohnett park. Needless to say, we did not participate. I would suggest to organizers to put an address of activity taking place on their info. flyer as well as give instructions if there's certain things you want volunteers to wear. (I'm assuming that this probably also wasn't clear). Though I can't stand B of A - good for them for recognizing a PR opportunity.

I see two people with brooms/rakes, and one with a bucket. There appear to be a couple spotters, and the people in the background seem to be doing work.

They were part of the Day of Caring.... too bad they didn't wear the Day of Caring shirts that we were all given! The rest of us volunteers were incognito and not seeking credit to the company we worked for specifically, we wore the United Way shirts to identify what we were a part of, which is so much bigger than just doing something on behalf of the company we work for. Saw these guys at the rally before it started and disappointed that they wore company shirts. Tacky!

...and unfortunately that litter means junk food being consumed. I routinely see kids buy soda, candy, snack 'cakes', and fried snacks at a convenience store on their walk route, to eat before or during school,. It's no wonder they do poorly in school. I doubt this diet is ever taken into consideration when evaluating their low test scores...just blame it on the teachers, it's easier.

Good job, thanks! But it's not just adults. We here near Franklin and Adelante Schools know that school is in session by the amount of litter dropped along the access streets, kids on the way to school and then afterwards. And also by the amount of litter along the perimeter of the school. It's really a shame that the schools do not instruct in neighborhood respect. ...And I sometimes think it is no wonder that the test scores are so low. (It would be interesting to visit the various elementary schools and see which have the most litter, which the least. Is Edhat up to another counting? If so, I'll volunteer.)

Is Bohnett Park still a magnet for gang members, or have they moved on?

Thanks indeed ! It is greatly appreciated. Too bad some people (adults) have never learned to clean up after themselves.
