Just couldn't help but respond to the know it all's. I have 3 mini dachshunds smaller than most cats so yes, they would be a bobcat's prey. I've lived in the woods most of my life and have seen several. This was far from misinformation and just a polite "heads up". I should have included cats, but mine lives indoors. We have a creek in the backyard so the critters, all of whom I love, travel it frequently as one side of it is pretty wild and it usually has water in it. There always seems to be someone who has to serve up the nasty comments!

Can we all just respect the wildlife we are steadily displacing? Sure watch your pets - do not let them roam. Not only are you protecting them from all kinds of dangers - mostly human-based, like cars - but you protect the wildlife from your pets - the most important reason for controlling domestic animals (that includes feral animals, for those who don't understand the meaning of the word domestic - it does NOT mean "tame").

OP said watch your doggies 535, not your cats. Doggies by nature, unless they are puppies, are safe from Bobs, cats not necessarily. Bobs are very timid and are frightened by canines.

407, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, you are mistaken. Unless California bobcats have a different diet than do Washington bobcats, that is.

From their website:

Food and Feeding Habits

Bobcats are opportunistic and will prey upon a wide variety of animals.
Food sources include mice, voles, rabbits, gophers, mountain beaver, yellow bellied marmots, fawns; also insects, reptiles, birds, and carrion.
Domestic animals occasionally taken include house cats, poultry, small pigs, and lambs.
Bobcats hunt primarily by sight and sound, which means they spend much of their time sitting or crouching, watching, and listening. Once they’ve located prey, they stalk within range of a quick dash and then pounce.
A bobcat will cover the remains of a large kill with debris such as snow, grass, or leaves. The bobcat will revisit a carcass until most of it is consumed.

Please don't confuse bobcats' prey for that of coyotes.

Bobcats will go after your rabbits but not your cats or dogs. Also coyotes hunt in packs so they can take down a prey that is close to their size. Not so with bobcats who hunt alone and may be injured when trying to take down a prey that is close to their size, an injury that could make it more difficult to get their next meal.

Please.... it's this kind of misinformation that creates misplaced fear.

Hands up, if you know where Loureyo Rd. is!
It is off Jameson Lane, in Montecito. In between San Ysidro Sheffield Dr. Closer to Sheffield.

You lucky dog, you. Seeing a bobcat. Hoo-RAH!
