My wife and I heard the same from our house in Winchester Canyon - sounded like they were playing some old 80s tunes.

And I'm the old grouch who called in the loud band playing after 10 PM and asked the sheriff to go quiet them down. I don't care who they are. We work every day, so we sleep every night. Be quiet!

@893 Good for you! I love how the local enforcement, police and sheriff's dept dispatch always act like you're the only person calling it in. I called this year about the Old Mission Fiesta dress rehearsal. The PA (public announcement) system volume was off the charts! I live blocks away from the Mission, and the guy talking sounded like he was standing on my front porch. How did these super-loud events suddenly come into being, anyway? Years ago, we never used to hear any of this thumping music, movies at the Courthouse, LOUD Hispanic events at Oak Park. Now it seems we are "participants" without even having to attend the events. I am not an old grouch, but I sure as heck don't want to hear blah-blah-blah, thumpety-thump and such in my living room. I don't care what the occasion is. More people should call in, and let it be known the volume needs to be localized.

Because rich people need to party outdoors because they can't afford the rent on indoor venues. How about building a ballroom that is painted to look like it is outdoors? Kind of like Cesar's Palace in Vegas, complete with airconditioning and flamethrowers. What is the use of having all that money if you can't do something completely ridiculous with it?

oof. The Edhat trolls are up in arms. Too bad. There is a valid point being made here. I think everyone has the right to enjoy their homes peaceably. It has nothing to do with age or temperament. It has everything to do with being considerate and keeping your noise to yourself. Have fun, live life to the hilt, only don't force your noise on others.

It's a party and festival town. If you live near an event center, ampitheater or high dollar resort, then you might hear or smell something now and then. It's called people living and having fun. You should really try it some time.

Commission Junction, a local company, held their annual conference at the Bacara this week. It brought thousands of people from across the country right here. These people spent money at local establishments (e.g., shops, restaurants) and used local services (e.g., taxis). Because of this event, thousands of dollars were infused into SB's infrastucture in a short period of time. Hope that helps you feel a little better about the noise.

There seems to be three sides to this story, the Bacara supporting the local economy, the residents and their insane work ethics, and the Snowy Plover disrupting everyones rights at the same time.

I'm the self-identified "old grouch" who lives up the canyon - more than half a mile away. (I'm only in my 50s, and still work every day.) It was LOUD. Multiple neighbors came out on the street at 10:30 PM to figure out where it was coming from, because we could hear it in our homes when we were trying to go to sleep, and it was interfering. You do not need to be loud to have fun. Being considerate of others during normal quiet times is one mark of maturity and consideration. Please keep your noise to yourself.

You can buy ear plugs for cheap at the dollar store. I've used these in the past when I've had a loud neighbor - rather than get my feathers all ruffled and stand out on the lawn and get all worked up with the neighbors. Ear plugs just seem like a better solution - cheap and no emotional attachment.

Be great to know if anything was done to discourage the Baccara from being bad neighbors in the future or if all the money involved with the event kept the sheriffs from any enforcement action. I bet if I amplified a party at my house so that it could be heard miles away, I would get cited for something.

Any of you saying to buy earplugs want to try putting them into toddlers ears?! Nor can you wear them if you need to listen out for the toddlers waking. We live in the Canyon, these are NOT multi million dollar homes, these are middle class working or retired people. I've never heard anything so loud from the Bacara before - I actually thought it was in the neighborhood. Found out from my friend's facebook post that it was the 80's band that Commission Junction hired at the Bacara. They were supposed to play til 2am, but were shut down at 11pm. I actually enjoyed the trip down memory lane, but only because my kids did stay asleep. There are noise ordinances, and it was loud, so I understand why people complained.

You know this reminds me of an annoying neighbor who complains about EVERYthing. Almost to the point of harrassment. Basically, this neighbor wants to impose their needs and wants onto everyone else around them, rather than give and take and realizing that having neighbors sometimes means noise or discomfort. I could see if it was going on every night, but if this was just one time or few times who cares!!! Let people have fun!!! Of course, there are noise ordinances and I believe it's either 10:30 or 11, so that's legit, but c'mon already. Getting to sleep at 11 isn't so bad. I've been woken up by my downstairs neighbors out of a peaceful sleep and NEVER complained - and wouldn't unless it became a regular occurrence or was very late at night. Other people get to live, too.

But don't they have to stop by 10 anyway? And if they don't I GUESS you could call the police. I don't personally think that's what the police should be used for unless it's an ongoing or truly excessive issue. One night of staying up late from music should be your only problem, people.

It was one loud night. We get occasional loud nights in our working neighborhood as well when there is fiesta or a carnival. Not sure you can make every night perfect. Did anyone try calling the front desk at the Bacarra while this was happening? I'm guessing not. How about a letter stamped today mailed to the General Manager followed up with a phone call? Shoot, if you're diplomatic, maybe they'll comp you a free buffet. Complaining here isn't going to do any good.

The sense of entitlement to subject others to loud music is both amazing and sad. We have a neighbor in Fellowship Canyon who plays his radio loudly all day as well as being noisy at all hours. They are mean, nasty and all you can do is sell and move...(no you can't talk to them, other neighbors have been abused trying)

Thanks 984 for reminding everyone and filling in a few facts. 11PM on a Friday night doesn't seem excessive. I am a self proclaimed noise grouch and never hesitate to call the authorities when there is LOUD talking, music or constant barking dogs on my street (where there are 3 'short term' residential rentals - party houses) after 10pm on a night before work...but 11pm on Friday..even I have more of a life than that to whine about that!

Some pretty funny comments here - but those who think it's no big deal, please be quiet. I agree with those who want (and deserve) peace and quiet at night. Can we have an anti-noise ordinance in Santa Barbara and enforce it? BTW 970, S.B. is NOT a party & festival town. It's our home.

People, it was NOT a Friday night! It was a Thursday night! If you have to be up early for work or have a newborn keeping you up a lot of the night or young kids up at 6am, then, no, it's not ok if it's past the noise ordinance time cutoff. With small kids in the house, sleep is precious and oh so elusive for the parents.
