Welcome to Santa Barbara, your gateway to a California Democrat utopia. Ahead on the left, you can see our most famous exhibit, "Unintended Consequences".

This looks like the start of a solution to that ugly thing. How many 100's of pairs of shoes would it take to completely cover it and be rid of the eyesore for good. Then, drop a bunch of good dirt from above and fill up the "shoe-pots", have a big party with everybody bringing their favorite flower seeds and tossing them into the "shoe-pots", water regularly and see what turns up. The Santa Barbara Shoe-Pots Hanging Garden. Sure to be a tourist favorite.

Ha -- Dan beat me to it! I've been meaning to take a pic of that for Edhat for weeks now! You'd think at LEAST the city would send someone over there with a pole to knock the shoes down. The embarrassment grows!

487 - there are meth heads selling in the units across the street from me, and there ARE shoes on the lines out front! Thanks for that connection, interesting... As for the chromatic gate, I think it looks better with the shoes.

I think I have some sneakers that aren't doing anything---maybe they'd like to get out for awhile and see the beach.

319498 - I love Santa Barbara and would not live anywhere else. Show me one state, Republican or Democratic that does not have problems. I guess using your logic, every Republican state that has problems is the Republicans fault and every Democratci state that has problems is the Democrats fault. Just FYI, red states take more money from the federal government than blue states.

508. Shoe-pots a brilliant idea. I have lots of seeds, mostly flowers. What fun. You start. 525. All shoes love the beach. Make sure you put yours up somewhere high, where they can partake of great ocean views . . .

They should leave the sculpture alone as it now makes an accurate artistic statement of what Santa Barbara really is: faded glory taken over by societal derelicts.

9498.... are you being forced to live here against your will? If so add cult to the list of things you hate about California. Yanno, they'd love you in Topeka or Cincinnati or even up in Billings: you can keep them warm all winter with your tales of how degenerate Californians are and how lucky you were to escape.

What do you bet that having the pix on the edhat will get results, while everyone, including Parks Department people, passing by, seeing, accomplishes nothing.

I think we all should make our way to the "gate" and throw our shoes up there. A social statement and acceptance of the multicultural demonstrations of the drug addicts/gang members/homeless. More shoes for the chromatic gate!

How could I have missed these pictures? I thought alot of money was recently raised to paint the gate? Where did that money go? Those shoes look to be about an 8 or 10 at the most. While my size is about a 13 and a half I'm comfortable wearing size 14 or 15's, my toe might fit in those. I also think the shoes look better up there..
