as a 29 yr old it's impossible to forget; so many of my peers have died from senseless violence in the middle east as a result of 9/11. the attacks of 2001, the past 11 years of war and the economic crash are the unfortunate events that define our generation. i wish only that we could bring our troops home and use the resources we spend fighting these drawn out wars for some much needed nation building here at home. sadly, things still look bleak based on the issues our popular media and politicians focus their energy on.

Thanks for the well said words. I always think of the many who died that day - I think of the deep bond between parents and their children. I think of the pain so many parents felt having to bury their children. I think of our naivete before that day. I think of how things have changed. I remember that day - I remember sitting in my apartment with the lights turned off, with the TV off wanting so badly to hear the sound of the planes...it was just silent. The truth of that day continues to be inescapable.

As soon as I read nation of savages, everything after that lost credibility. No country is composed of savages. There are portions of the population who do bad things, and people are quick to smear everyone with the actions of a few. The performance of a few soldiers at Abu Ghraib was not the most civilized, but I would not characterize all soldiers like that. Iraq was devastated by the invasion - millions of people were displaced and lost their homes, and thousands died. That is the definition of savagery. And btw, that area is the cradle of civilization, where many of the "tools" we use today originated.
