My fantasy is to make all of Santa Barbara and all of Goleta (not Hwy 101) 25mph. Think how blissfully slowed down everything would be. Gasoline would be saved. Air would be less polluted. Pedestrians and cyclists would be a bit safer. Ah . . . to dream.

The only reason this is being discussed now has nothing to do with kids playing in parks. The real motive is due to the Cavaletto Tree Farm infill housing project. This horrendous project has two access roads one is Merida Dr. Public Works figures they better do something now before the 135 homes with 300+ vehicles (and an untold number of residents)move in.

This project will be built in phases and will leave that poor neighborhood under construction for years. The traffic will be a nightmare on Patterson and people will fly down Merida Dr instead.

The Eastern Goleta Valley has already seen its fair share of "infill" housing by this developer and his manipulating tactics. It's time for our county to revise this rediculous bonus density/ in lieu fee law that is ruining this beautiful place. It's only given developers with no moral code a free pass to overdevelop.

@505 ouch! Was Janet Wolf part of the approval process? She is awfully ineffective. Special interest. She has her hand in broken promises in our neighborhood.

485, Actually, almost all cars get AWFUL gas mileage at speeds that low. Most cars get the best gas mileage between 45 and 65 mph.

505p--"horrendous project"?! Really? It is overstatements like that that makes it difficult to take seriously the predictable nimby opposition to anything and everything proposed in santa barbara.

I would not worry about this, if it is like the 25mph speed zones in sb the police/sheriff will not enforce it
