SANDSTONE Unweathered and unexposed inside and weathered and slowly eroding and disintegrating on the expose surfaces.

Not certain but I suspect the orange tint is actually the iron content in the rock oxidizing as it is exposed through erosion.

Differential weathering, maybe, and a different color because surface isn't aged as the exterior is? Simplistic, but there's my thought.
