I remember the Helm's trucks. Even which drawer held the amazingly delicious powered jelly donuts. This was back in L.A. Vior's was before my time here, but reading this is making me crave freshly baked local bread like you can't believe.

Our Daily Bleah can't compare to old Vior's. No way. D'Angelos has far better bread.

The Helms trucks were yellow and blue I believe. I had forgotten about the card in the window. I think it was a big yellow and blue H.

@930 OP, here. I miss that sourdough, and Roy's beaming smile most of all! And "Lalo," the worker. I used to go to Haley and trade Roy large brown paper bags (from Safeway/Vons) for bread (1970s-80s.) @ 792 ,850 When I saw this "panel truck" I could hardly believe my eyes. Had never seen it before. But my first thought was------ before I saw the "Italian Bakery" writing ------"Helm's truck!" Haha. We used to chase down the Helm's Bakery panel truck. We paid 5 cents for a sugar cookie. I can still see the driver pulling out those long trays of goodies. Wow. Those are some happy memories. When I saw the signage "Italian Bakery" and the address, I knew it must be Vior's. Roy Vior, you wonderful man. You are missed.

Birkholom's Bakery in Solvang has a classic bakery truck often parked out front of the newly re-opened shop on Alisal Road.

Yes, this is one of the old Vior's Italian Bakery delivery vans. I'm a family member and recognize the panel van. I don't have any information on the history of where the vehicle has been or who currently owns it but, seeing it certainly brings back memories. Not only do I miss our bread too, we also miss serving the local community!

For a number of years that truck was stored in a lot at the SW corner of Santa Barbara and Gutierrez streets. The guy who has it now lives in Ojai and has no plans to restore it. Just to leave it the vintage vehicle that it is.

808.... the mayor, a political party and a president closed down a bakery? From the looks of the truck the president and mayor you blame for this were still in their teens at the time.

A couple of neat bakery panel truck restorations show up regularly 8 am Saturdays @ Pismo Beach's (OSH parking lot) Donut Derelicts. One originally from New Zealand. Several other delivery panel trucks, a WWII ambulance, etc, most are original like this one. (hard to fake the oxidized paint)

That's the sign-maker's truck; A survivor; no restoration needed or wanted.

@792, yes, Helms' Bakery truck! Mom used to put a card in the living room window when she wanted bread.

Vior's Italian bread and bakery was a good, local product. And we can't blame its closing due to a mayor, political party, or president. I remember the bread, the locations of the bakery, but not the delivery trucks. Thanks.

I've seen that truck around town lately too. Miss the old Viors loaves, used to buy them at downtown Vons. Then Vons replaced them with Our Daily Bread (good bread too, but more expensive).

I have spotted the van several times over the past few months. Why has it suddenly surfaced? Is it the real deal or faux-vintage mobile art?

It's one of the old Viors Italian bakery trucks. Probably the last one arround. It was good bread.
