I'd prefer that the military industrial complex didn't have such a stranglehold on our budget and that our military spending was more in line with other countries.

I support the Halsey's anti-Somali pirate efforts, but our military is way out of whack in proportion to GDP in the US, and it feeds on the backs of the needy. I'd be more supportive of the military if we had mandatory service (including the offspring of the wealthy and hawkish politicians), which would cause an uproar and decrease the public's support of the military.

317900 - the US is meant to support freedom of expression and ideas. Many people have died for that. Democracy is participation and expressing opinion whether good or bad, otherwise we'll all be like goose-stepping robots. It would be far better if humanity could study ways to get along, rather than reach for the nearest bomb when people disagree. Maybe if we did that, there would be fewer problems in societies, e.g. homelessness, hunger, etc.

AUNTIE S. - have you read about the role Goldmann Sachs played in the tragedy of Greece? Have you read about the role many banks have played in economic stress in other parts of the world? You are comparing an apple with a cinnamon stick.
