Since the deal was "offered only if Terrones agreed to waive the right to a preliminary hearing" it is likely they wanted to spare the victims the ordeal of having to testify in court. They are asking for a sentence of six years and eight months. It is likely he will have to register as a sex offender as well--for life. These are not small consequences, and the deal was likely vetted with the victims and their parents before being offered.

I have found that people who argue against plea bargains generally have no understanding of why they exist and are poor at imagining and exploring possibilities outside of their own firmly held but groundless beliefs ... possibilities such as that there is reasonable doubt about guilt and uncertainty about winning at trial. Having entered a plea bargain when I was innocent myself, I know that they are an extortion tool ... the risk of an angry unthinking jury convicting one despite reasonable doubt is great enough to warrant paying off the state.

I agree with 494. Many of these girls don't come forward at all. It is often their parents who find out and instead of being angry with their daughters, they push for a sex crime against the adult.

It was probably consensual, and the girl refused to cooperate. No plea bargain would probably have mean no conviction.

Adults who commit sex crimes with minors should not be offered, or allowed to accept, a plea bargain.

What is sick is you offered this sicko a plea deal, he should get life. What the hell is wrong with the DA's in SB, give him a long term and throw him general population in prison so he can feel what it is like to be a victim.
