Oh, thank GOD! Maybe there will be HD cameras and less weather in our future.

HAH! KEYT, which has always been a second rate news service... NOW will become a THIRD RATE news service. Much like McCaw has done with the NewsSuppress. Congrats SB!

Why do you say that, 974; are you familiar with the Missouri company?

Too bad they didn't buy the News Press instead. At least then they could use the newspress URL.

Different News Press people. This one is owned by the Bradley family and has no connection whatsoever to Wendy McCaw or any news paper in California. Google NPGCO and look at their business interests. KEYT has no where to go but up.

978P, any company that allows someone like McCaw to ruin and continue to ruin a business isn't to be trusted with a new endeavor...

R-E-A-D the article people. This is a company, out of the midwest, called News-Press and Gazette Co. It is NOT related to the SBNP, nor Ampersand Publications, the name of Wendy McCaw's parent company that owns the SBNP. I too had the same visceral reaction -- are you kidding me?! -- until I read the article.

Oh Boy This should be alot of FUN! You can buy up all the News Agencies but Roger is not for sale!

But McCaw has nothing to do with this, 992. At all. In any way.

I hope the new owners will upgrade KEYT-TV"s studio with HD equipment. Gotta get with the 21st century.

I agree that KEYT can only improve. Hopefully they will get rid of Palmenteri and completely revamp the news cast so it is not the laughing stock it currently is, and all of the radio stations that allow his annoying voice to announce his "news" please stop! It's like nails on a chalkboard. Oh and psst there is no need to announce the weather more than once or twice, we DO NOT need it several times throughout the broadcast.

I wonder if Arthur von Wiesenheimer will get his own show now that Wendy has a TV station.

This HAS to be nothing but GOOD NEWS for S.B. County TV viewers.

Bring on the HD!

Are the folks at KEYT unionized? Wendy won't be happy if they are.

Now maybe Tess Rafols can give up her Phoenix broadcast job and return to SB.

KEYT needs extended hours coverage when we have fires. I found myself during previous fires outside in the early a.m. hours looking/and listening for sirens and evacuation alerts - on the Android scanner app, and reading Edhat.

Think most of those are tongue-in-cheek, 128.

MO is a pretty conservative state, very Red. Wonder how that will play out?

Many of the comments here are representative of just how clueless many people are that post on this site. They don't read the story and don't care to listen. It happens all the time. It's not McCaw.

I was one of those who jumped to conclusions about McCaw being in on this and I'm glad I kept my "mouth shut and be thought a fool than opened it and removed all doubt"! Many thanks to the fools who preceded me and saved me from my own folly.

I'll go read the article now.

Picture yourself in your posh skyscraper suite in St Joe's. Is there any reason to invest a dime in HD or anything else in a monopoly station in a medium-small market?? This station has changed hands frequently over recent decades, and we can milk it for a few bucks then flip it again in a few years. We could even fire all the staff in Santa Barbara and cover the SB local news from our Missouri studios. Any person who bets that we will not own this station 5 years from now stands a good chance of collecting.

Wonder if they will change the call sign to KMCW. Not looking forward to all those News-Press ads that undoubtedly inundate us during the news.

is NOT the same as

Santa Barbara News Press of Santa Barbara

OMG. Very disturbing that so many comment without reading/understanding the very clear mention that this is a Missouri-based company. Mind-boggling.

I can't understand why Wendy would move to Missouri. Hope Ranch seems lovely. And now that she's moving, why buy KEYT back in her old haunts? So confusing!

@317172P -- really, really interesting and it is now s.o.p here. Edhatters are in a class of their own, let's hope. Ooops, that should be "our" own, unfortunately.

You don't even have to read the article, just the headline, to get enough information to avoid stupidly assuming that it's the same News-Press -- which is the name of a local paper, not a company in Missouri. And commenting on any story at EdHat without first reading it is idiotic in its own right.

Possibly relevant item on the wiki page: "On March 19, 2012, News-Press & Gazette announced it would establish a low-power television station in St. Joseph that would serve as the company's television flagship and the first broadcast station that the company built and signed on; it would be an affiliate of the Fox Broadcasting Company (with subchannel-only affiliations with The CW and Telemundo)."

What I find amazing are all the posters here who fall so easily for obvious troll bait. What fun it is picturing the smoke coming out of your ears as we mention McCaw yet another time.

I just saw this post. Does anyone know why McCaw is buying a Missouri television station and moving it to TV Hill? Can nothing stop this woman?
