Its great to hear there were no casualties during this period, but I don't believe it is a direct result of more officers on the road. How many designated DUI officers do we hire like Buetel during these periods? Seems a bit overkill to me, that being the officers per capita compared to other counties. We could use the officers and the money allotted for more community based programs to combat gangs, parole and probation enforcement, so these habitual DUI'ers don't get a chance to get on the road or gangsters are shook down more and not allowed to run rampant armed on the streets. More enforcement isn't going to make a drunk stop drinking and driving, especially now with jail overcrowding all they get is an ankle bracelet and house arrest for a month. We are arresting more people than we can house and giving them a slap on the wrist, go for the bigger fish not tad poles,

930, as an avid law-abiding driver, pedestrian, and cyclist, i CANNOT WAIT until this starts becoming a priority in this city. It's unbelievable how incredibly awful pedestrians are here downtown, and it ain't just the tourists!

Pedestrians have horrible attitudes. I wonder if they get mad because they are not driving and decide to cut corners. French and German tourists are the worst, only behind the homeless, and locals who like to walk around town and take pictures of everything.

164 DUI busts in 18 days countywide is not very many. that's less than 9 per day. Considering the money and manpower used on this effort the results are underwhelming.

Every time I go down town I see numerous bicycle riders go through red lights, not only at mid block but at cross streets also Where is the law enforcement ???

@317173 Yeah, that's just what we need. Let's take resources away from real crime to bust cyclists for going through a red light with nothing else but sparse pedestrian traffic. That sounds like an excellent use of taxpayer dollars. Where is the common sense ???

944, you can put scare quotes around words if you like, but it is possible to safely drink and drive -- I do it on a regular basis. As long as you have a reasonable level of alcohol tolerance and are an experienced driver it's not a real safety issue.
