@317354 Thanks for sharing. That type of predator are a dime a dozen out there. He sounds similar to Andrew Luster. I remember that guy hunting the down town bar's in the 90's and pulling a couple of over intoxicated girls away from him and sending them home in cab's. My daughter just started high school and I'm PANICKING with this news. She told me about some sophomore's sporting neck tat's and sleeve tat's witch isn't new to me but the people I remember with tat's in high school didn't end up doing to well in life. In fact a lot lost their lives. I hope they keep up the pressure and keep the schools as clean as possible.

Say all you want about Brandon Gaffke, I new the kid, the teenager, and the drug addicted, tatted out, drug dealer, who who gets young girls hooked on dope and treat them like trash, as well as sell a lot of weight. I was housed with him before he went to prison and all he talked about is getting little 18 yo college girls hooked on dope and having wiping out the girls bank account. He is a punk, nice if you are living that lifestyle because he will break you off some, but a complete hazard to our town. Before he got into the drugs he was fun, after I cut off our relations because he went completely the wrong way.I should have beat him down in jail, listening to that crap coming out of his mouth is sickening.Yeah I hope he comes out of prison and changes,he got his neck tats removed when he had a kid but didn't change his ways.Sex with 18yo olds and getting them hooked was his M.O., worthless trash, claiming to be a proud White man but polluting our people.

That mindset is everywhere in this town. Sy you must have a huge amount of patience to live down town. I gave up down there about 10 years ago. Over my lifetime it just got continually more crowded and dangerous. After my car being vandalized or broken into a few times and being intimidated by bad guys it didn't seem like it would get better but only worse. So i figured the bad guys had won and that I would leave. It was hard with all of the good memories I had growing up there. But I've been happy in my new quiet area in the foothills of Carp. I come into SB occasionally and am shocked at how bad things have gotten and continue to get.

I'm sure this won't be the last time. We get this kind of news from the high school. Cell phones and the garbage on the internet can contribute negatively to how these kids grow up. I agree it's the parents responsibility raise their kids, organize the schools with teachers they like, and elect politicians that will do a good job.

Interesting thread - some here are PC advocates and some are realists - having 3 kids go to SBHS - I can tell you that drugs and gangs are a real and present danger -At this level it is the wild west - we need to Hit the problem head on - and any one that thinks different is living in the PC world - It's all about the money - I have had esk - & wsers in my house for SBHS functions (after a FB game) - kept the peace with a piece of pipe - cops showed up - No one got arrested and no one got hurt -The main problem is the kids have no home life - no direction - no one teaching - right from wrong - the world is their oyster and they are going to harvest it. as far as - Wood Chipper -the comment very funny - But they just need a large dose of doing HARD TIME - As for me - i will at the home game tonight helping to cook and clean up - come join the crowd and have some fun

Part of the blame needs to fall squarely on the useless teachers and administrators at Santa Barbara High School. These teachers turn a blind eye to infractions of school policy, bend over backwards to accommodate students who can't or won't learn English and shrug their shoulders when the girls become pregnant at 16 and the boys drop out of school to sell drugs.

I started the Wood Chipper thang with Child Molesters in mind. I got brutally molested as a kid and didn't have the normally wonderful life many people have had. If it was legal or their sentence I'd shove them in for free like carrot sticks being shreaded for a salad. I'd do it with a big ear to ear smile on my face and I would not need medication anymore..Yes some people are wired differently and some are tired of being victimazied.

The Santa Barbara portrayed by the Edhat commentariat doesn't seem particularly tolerant or forgiving. At any rate, I think I'm just wired differently. I don't believe that violence begets violence, that the death penalty should exist or that you should threaten people with death to get them in line. If you think that's the way things should be done... Well, that's fine. But I find that way of thinking pretty odious.

18 with a loaded pistol in his pocket sounds pretty wild west-ish to me. I guess they weren't sooting heroin in the wild west but they were smoking opium. Maybe a deterioration into a modern wild west? No mater the moment in time one thing never changes, people that that want to brake the law and aren't afraid to do so will. Good honest people shouldn't be afraid of criminals. Criminals SHOULD be afraid of the CONSEQUENCES of committing crime. Consequences need to act as a deterrent to committing crime. Financial, incarceration, labor, physical, deportation, or whatever works until you get to the point where crime is low and mutual respect for one another is high. Right now we're going in the opposite direction and have been for years.

He only sold to support his habit. He didn't pay off his bail with drug money. And when he was out on bail he hung out with the wrong people and got re arrested. He was never open for business the same day. He's now doing 8+ years.

Like 913 said, it isn't just racial designated to Hispanics. The serious crimes and dealers in town cross all color barriers. I remember when they arrested Brandon Gaffne, a old friend as a kid, who was the main distributor and supplier of Meth and Heroin in SB.Not only did they let him out on 1million bail he paid in drug money, he was open for business the same day. These are the guys they need to put away, heavy drug pushers and a no tolerance for gangs.Gangs here happen to be Hispanic, and if their role models are guys who put in work or did prison time then it will be a revolving door.Parents work and they have no one to mold them into adulthood except their shot callers in town.We use public funds for programs and deterrents that don't work,we need to give officers a gang injunction and the right to search and arrest known serious criminals in town, regardless of race.Parolees/probationers,and transients should be at the top of the list, check ID's, be proactive.

You know I've lived in gang member territory a long time now and I have never been harassed. What has me more concerned is the massive amounts of transients, I have literally had one try to get in my car, I've had my backside grabbed, I've been cursed at, they are out of control and no one seems to care. I'am genuinely scared for my life or that I may be raped someday, carjacked, kidnapped, and NOT by a gang member. In fact the time I spent living next door to a good amount of them I learned they are more for protecting people and going after child molesters, rapist and creeps. They were actually very nice to me. I actually felt safe, weird. I don't feel safe with all the new pedophiles, junkies, career robbers, and who knows what else. NO ONE (besides Roger) is interested in who these people are. let these unknown creeps run our streets, cruise around the parks and schools. Obviously it's a racial thing.

How to get rid of them is a problem .What can we do to deter these losers. They want everyone to think there the king, big macho man, head pin.top gang banger. They walk around terrorizing the younger kids with the drugs and guns and the likes. They think nothing of killing soneome, stealing a car or breaking the law.Education hasn't worked for them or talking to there parents or relatives doesn't work. writing them citations doesn't do anything either. . Nothing else is working.... I imagine the police are pretty frustrated in arresting the same thugs every week.. They even know them by name...and every alias. This is the effect of all of this crime on me and the understanding that to stop it will require drastic and cheap measures. What's wrong with them? They don't fear anything. They need to learn to fear breaking the law and being bad. Bad people suck no matter what they do. Rich, poor, light, dark, fat, skinny, pretty, or ugly. The whole spectrum. Crime is getting worse here and needs to be stopped. Any better ideas that would work? Talking softly and understanding doesn't seem to be working and is surprisingly expensive. Got to protect the kids cuz once they're damaged it's very difficult to repair them. GOOD teachers can manage a rubber band fight but nowadays our schools need a swat team to protect them. Thats why Sy. We are pissed.

I don't understand why Ramirez was patted down... after it was determined that he wasn't a student and therefore wasn't truant, why would it be legal to get a pat down? Seems like a stretch. Having grown up here and attending SBJH and SBHS in the late 90's, never did gangs pose a serious threat to community as they do now. I knew plenty of ES and WSers through sports, having a uncle and friends who on the ES, and never were there so many packing guns as there are now. I am White and got jumped a few times at night walking in their side of town, but never saw the the violence they impose on each other,i.e. other gangs, the drug control of neighborhoods, and the stealing or charging the gangs enforce to local businesses to operate on Milpas and San Andreas in order to not be harassed. This is just one more example of how bad it has got, a direct result by not ordering a gang injunction, and not letting these gang members congregate and control the streets. Cam Sanchez is impartial to Hispanics and is doing an injustice, putting innocent people at risk. When is enough?

Glad to see SBPD making their presence known. But we're never going to arrest our way out of the problem. In addition to deterrence programs, the City needs to consider opening up the east and west sides to new development, larger, single family houses and office buildings. Tear down the slums and hovels where these scumbags live and price them out of the market.
