question.... when a drunk crashes and damages a guardrail, or a sign, or any other kind of city/county property, do we get to stick them with the bill, or do the taxpayers pay for the repairs?

Is there a site that publishes the remainder of the reports for the public to view?

Please indicate when vehicles are impounded. If thousands of dollars of fines and a jail term aren't enough to discourage drunk driving, losing a vehicle might.

no shortage of work for DWG. he must get clients every weekend. what % are multiple dui offenders? I'm guessing 50%. I would say the penalties for first time offenders can not be much of a deterrent.

Mr. 92, you are obviously trying to get a rise out of folks, so I will keep my reply low key. But I will say this: Some day you may have a loved one paralyzed, brain-damaged or killed by an impaired driver. The very nature of accidental deaths by impaired drivers is that those who are victimized are selected totally randomly. It be your child, wife, mother, kid's teacher, or neighbor that is hit tomorrow or next year and their life could be ruined. Will you feel so cute and humorous if that happens? Shame on those who are purposely cruel to others.

There is no such thing as an "accident" when the driver is impaired. Part of the change that needs to happen is to adopt the attitude that when someone drinks, and then gets behind the wheel, it is a form of Russian roulette. Nobody would tolerate a guy standing on any street corner pulling the trigger, repeatedly, even if the gun only had one bullet. C'mon people. Get serious about this crime.

54 DUI arrests for an entire month is actually a very low number. That averages out to be a little less than 2 per day. I estimate that there are at least 2000 people every day driving drunk in Santa Barbara. 99.9% of those drivers get away with it. During the same time period over 2000 parking tickets were issued.

These comments perpetuate the continuing ignorance of the public with respect to the vehicle code violation of driving under the influence. In most cases it has nothing to do with being drunk so idiotic slogans the public is peppered with like "friends don't let friends drive drunk" or "know when to say when" are MEANINGLESS. What would be more meaningful in an analyis of this story, is exactly what the blood alcohol level was in each case, what the driving pattern was to determine how it was impaired and the physical characteristics and drinking history of the person arrested. Alcohol impairment is like the Richter Scale of earthquakes. The difference between a level of .08 or .10 which in some people might be less impairment than a common cold and anyone with a blood alcohol level of .15 to .20 are miles appart. Someday the ignorance will be eliminated!

DUIs are ALL the cops care about. Try... just TRY getting them to catch a thief or do anything about graffitti. There's no money in that, so they are instructed to go after DUIs with 110% of thier energy and effort. There is an imbalance in policing going on.
