It will still be Santa Barbara Airport, they're talking about naming the terminal a la Bradley terminal at LAX.

Does anyone know who William L Moffett is or where the street name Fowler come from? (These are the 2 streets the airport is on.)

I was not aware that the city council had any influence over flights / destinations. If that is true I have never heard it. No matter what we name it 30% of the people wont like it. Naming the terminal is a nice touch in my opinion but I have no suggestions.

Doesn't the Terminal (the old one now part of the new one) already have a name? I thought it was the Earl Ovington Terminal? Wasn't there a large rock with a plaque on it to that effect in the grassed patio area? What happened to it?

There are so many aviation pioneers in the history of the city like Earl Ovington, the Loughead brothers, Jack Northrup... Please, please, don't let it be a politician!

Most of the street names on/near the airport including Fowler and Moffett are locals who were killed in WWII. Check out the Memorial at the viewpoint parking lot.

Santa Barbara Airport Terminal.

And yes, 042, people voting for that know "they're talking about naming the terminal a la Bradley terminal at LAX" and the point we are making is that we don't want a name other than Santa Barbara attached to it. Often it is a purchased or political title. What's the point if we're talking of naming someone people don't even know? Keep it clean and simple.

I tried to send my opinion to Karen Ramsdell and got a message saying her e-mail is not valid? What's up with that? I clicked on the link of the airport website.

Judge Rickard did cut the deal that annexed the airport land but I really think this should honor someone with a direct connection to aviation -- especially local aviation.

How about naming it whatever appears to be carved in stone above the front door? Santa Barbara Airport or whatever. For sure not what's memorialized on the tiled plaque right outside the entrance: names of city council, airport Important Persons, maybe BOS? Please name it what it is. Santa Barbara Airport. Do Not spend any more of my taxes to make it cuter or more slavish to important people. Let's spend money, if there is any, to improve luggage delivery, parking, etc.

Why make an illusion to some place in France - we are who we are -- we don't need to coattail someone else's reputation. Sounds like a cheesy travel commercial to call us the "American" Riviera.

We are a stand alone brand on our own -- plus our heritage is Spanish, not French. Oh yes, I guess you can count the Napolean era in Mexico as "French" by default.

The terminal does not need to be named for anyone. And certainly not that self-promotional gadfly Rickard.

Jack Rickard, former mayor of Santa Barbara, respected Superior Court Judge and with family ties in Santa Barbara going back generations. If it were not for his legal efforts there would BE NO SANTA BARBARA AIRPORT. State law did not allow a City to have an "Island" of City land in Goleta, which the airport would have been if purchased by the City. He devised a way to use a narrow strip of land running just off shore from the Mesa past Hendry's beach (Arroyo Burro) and past Hope Ranch and More Mesa connecting the airport to the city of Santa Barbara. He is obviously the candidate that is head and shoulders above the rest to have the airport he created named after him.

Please do not name after some retired politician who made a living off of tax payers or a philanthropist who made a living off of an inheritance.

There are numerous business owners who have contributed far more to our city by taking the risk and putting in the hard work that in turn created jobs that allowed many people to earn a decent living in SB.

How about someone like John McFarlane. Founder of Software dot com and Sonos.

I add my name to the long list of people who think we really, really should leave it alone. Santa Barbara Municipal Airport has everything going for it - it is simple, easy to remember, and says it all. How frustrating it is when using software to make travel plans to have to keep looking up various airport names that have no association so you don't remember them. There are thousands of airports, and millions of names. Make it easy on everyone! Call it what it is.

1. Santa Barbara Airport. [Why name it anything other than what it is?]

3. Don Stratman Terminal. [Stratman Aero Service has provided small plane repair at the SBA for over 50 years.]
4. Terminal Illness. [I love great plays on words. This is a classic.]
5. Gerrymander Memorial Airport. [Why name it anything other than what it is?]
