If he didn't have a gun he probably would of stabbed them in their sleep. Way to turn a tragedy that we no nothing about into an opportunity to jump on your soap box. Don't you have better things to do like check your grow house? Life is too short to get all worked up about stuff that will never change like the right to bear arms.

I know people on both sides of this issue - people who hunt, people who use them for household protection and people who not only hate guns but want to get up in everyone's business and have guns banned period. It's a personal choice - we are fortunate that we get to make that choice and many others. People who want to hurt others will use any means available to them - remember that.

When you split a hair, you end up with lots of little strands of hair pieces. When you split gun and anti-gun arguments, you still have a dead body.

959 My point was that we most definitely eat what we kill. Are you saying my dog will stab me in the back? That's an odd thing to say about an animal as fiercly loyal as a dog. I do not know any hunters that "enjoy" killing. They appreciate the beauty of the animals they hunt and the challenge of the hunt. We kill to eat it's just that simple.

940: I'm pretty sure any deer that gets killed would disagree with you on that one. Your dog comes from wolves, which are hunted, and would also stab you in the back given the chance. It doesn't matter which way you decide to cut it, killing any animal for enjoyment is just wrong.

I think your assumption that hunters "very often" do not eat what they kill is inaccurate. And my dog would seriously disagree that he is the same as the animals we hunt.

People kill with vehicles too..In fact many people with vehicles aim toward pedrestrians and speed up as pedestrians use crosswalks..Vehicles should be outlawed..

The fact that the gun even exists is the sole problem. Unfortunately, that's not changing now that anyone with a machine shop could manufacture one if they really wanted to. I still think those who place such an emphasis on owning more guns simply to have some variety are wasting their time. Some members in my family do this, and I really don't see the fun in spending money to go pump metal into the ground. If you really want to do target practice, get a bow and arrow. As for those that hunt, I understand if you actually eat the animal, but very often, that is not the case. Hunting is not a sport, and should not be considered an enjoyable activity. It is a means to survive, nothing more. Killing a bird, dear, rabbit, bear, whatever it may be, is no different than me shooting your dog.

It's not the right to own a gun that costs you money, do you think that gun violence will drop if guns are taken away from non-violent people that own guns? That would be naive, gun violence is not going change one bit. Criminals are criminals, do you actually think they are going to turn in their guns if guns are outlawed? LOL

881P-Your first link is an un-authored rant about gun violence which basically says gun related deaths increased during the same period of time more gun laws and restrictions on gun owners were introduced. Also, Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information. Proving the point that gun violence is not controlled by restricting responsible gun ownership. Criminals will get guns whether they are legal or not, that's kind of why they are criminals. I have owned guns for years and haven't shot a single person. Neither have any of my gun-toting friends. Just because a person owns a gun does not in any way make them more inclined to commit a violent crime.

MSSB.... not just a love affair with guns but a cultural and pathetic love affair with guns. You argument only reinforces my point. "The responsible gun owner never needs to use or misuse a gun, only the criminal would use or misuse it." So why own it if you don't plan on using it? 'Coz you think you can use it against someone who is misusing his??? THAT is what makes the love affair so pathetically mired in fantasy. Every common man dreams of being John Wayne, who protects his family when the breakdown in law and order comes knocking at the door.... instead he ends up shooting some kid who looks like his worst fear. Claiming guns don't kill people is like saying hammers don't hit nails or cars don't transport people. It's convenient parsing that works on the political stage to cover up the ethical and cultural corruption that surrounds the big business of making tools for killing people.

There's a reason why gun-related violence including deaths is so high in this country, compared with other countries. Check out these gun-related statistics It's also very expensive, costing the US about $100billion, including a large amount of Emergency Room costs ---- those who do not favor "socialized medicine" might consider how much the right for just about anyone to own a gun is costing the rest of us. Wikipedia has some statistics.

Take away our right to own guns and then only criminals have guns. I'm not willing to allow that and thank God I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Love affair with guns? This is not an accurate portrayal of how a responsible gun owner behaves. No matter what restrictions you place on gun ownership it will not stop this type of violence. In case you hadn't noticed only honest people obey laws. Violent crime using guns is normally not perpetrated by lawfully aquired firearms and when it is the individual would likely have obtained the weapon by other means if they could not buy it legally.
