Search And Rescue is where? By all means, let's expend more county resources before the people who are trained to do this for free. (And County Fire wonders why they're in the red...)

@709 Point is, this is happening far too often of late. What's the solution? This getting lost and/or dehydrated business is costing us all money, despite volunteer rescuers. Money that certainly could be put to better use-----if only to maintain the trails!

As a local who has hiked and rehiked (many times) the front country trails, I am not personally inconvenienced (aside from the taxpayer aspect), but I am more than a bit annoyed with people not knowing what the heck they are doing. Who are these bozos who don't carry enough water?

And why just the "westside" if there's an emergency? What about us in Montecito, Hope Ranch, Riviera? . . . . Just kidding.

709, I think people should hike without phones. And I live on the lower Westside.

Yup, I agree with what Dan39 said, tired of hearing about people who are constantly getting rescued because they went off the trail or didn't take water. It is another thing to get rescued because you actually got hurt enough that you can't find a stick & limp out like we all did prior to cell phones. It is sad how useless people have become with the advancement of technology.

Is fire calling in more resources yet?

Stay classy.

732, They are bozos if they don't hike with water.

I agree...and I'm tired of hearing all the sirens going to rescue all the over-60 crowd who suffer various medical emergencies in this town. Old people die. It's a natural part of life. Why disturb us younger folks with all those loud sirens?

750. It's more the 30 and younger that get rescued.

Dan39, I think you missed what 750 was saying.

An ill hiker could be life threatening. Maybe they are having a heart attack. Let's not prosecute someone before the facts are known.

Wow, it must be nice to be up on that high and mighty plane where only a few exist.

Real medical emergencies happen in the "wild" and downtown alike, regardless of what judgement some people want to pass on it. We can't know for sure what happens and why someone calls for help. All I know is that I hope everyone who has ever needed assistance is okay.

Some of you are really myopic and downright jerky about what you think constitutes necessary help or intervention.

758P, what did I miss?

Heehee.... I love the gratuitous finger pointing. It reminds of the recent political circus down in Tampa.

750... what makes you think these are old folks being caught so unprepared? In my 20 years of hiking the front country I've only seen 20 somethings head up oozing booze out their pores at the hottest times of the day with barely any water, maybe a soda, wearing street clothes.

Most of us old folks get up early in the morning and hike in the cool hours of the day making our way down the trail when you and your cohorts are heading up. Jump to whatever conclusions you wish - they are no more factual than the political kabuki we've been watching these last 3 months.

Hey I say let the firefighters rescue them. They just gave up a whooping 1.5% in concessions while retaining 12.5% percent. What are we paying them for, washing the engine, playing volleyball, watching tv, playing video games, cooking dinner and sleeping on-duty while every body else doesn't get that perk....

If I'm correct what 750 was saying is that so many complain about those who need help while hiking (without there always being a reason reported, just an assumption), will people start complaining about the calls going out for the older adult who may have fallen, or have a health emergency? Especially since these become more common the older we get. We should be appreciative that we have rescue personnel that respond when we need them. Lets leave the judgement of valid emergencies to them.
