Domestic violence isn't limited to any particular ethinc group, it's alcohol that often sets it into motion. I doubt this is the 1st time the poor woman has been hit by this partner of her "longtime relationship". Hopefully, she will leave and realize she doesn't deserve violence.

I grew up in a midwest state with VERY, very, few minorities, and guess what? The prisons and jails weren't empty, and neither was the welfare line. They were full of caucasians, instead of minorities like they are here. Crime and poverty aren't limited to minorities, and neither is domestic violence. The secondary tragedy to the domestic violence is the misinformation and the assumptions about the victim or the culture of said victim or perpetrator. This is evidenced right here in the comments on this board, (ie. what the victim may have done to instigate or deserve the attack) that victimize that person all over again.

This guy is pretty lame. He's definitely not from here. I don't recognize him and I know everyone. It's true that very few guys that grew up here would do this to their girlfriend. Beating on girls is NOT part of local culture. Not sure how to fix this guy. To me he's like a dog that bites.

601 - Thank you for the great insight - I have witnessed countless crimes and violence against women in my lifetime - Some have been friends, family, and strangers. Not once will I say say it has anything to do with the "skew of Mexicans" and domestic violence. I appreciate your comments but I do feel we all need to be very careful when we make statements that teeter on the edge of stereotypes. Domestic Violence is Domestic Violence - It has no color - I am a 5th generation Santa Barbara native & I am native american - I'm sure you could come up with a slew of sterotypes for that too -

Mr. or Mrs. 315601 - When you say you grew up with Cito Rats, Skins, Northside, what exactly are you saying? Also, Mexican culture does not promote or accept any violence upon a woman. I think some of the other references you make about others (ES, WS) are a bit skewed and reckless.. It may be best to stop making reckless statements - Edhat is not the place for this type of conversation.
