The closest active fire is in San Gabriel, LA County. Direction of view from your photo would help a lot. Otherwise it's all pretty vague.

This photo looks to be shot from the 33 heading into Ojai. Can't tell from the photo which side of the distant mountains the plume originates. I'd say Sulphur mountain if it's close and NNE of the eastern end of the Ojai valley if it's over the horizon.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting a rapidly spreading brush fire in Lockwood Valley near a boy scout camp. There is a picture on the KEY news twitter; I can't post the link.
