396 I noticed the same thing. I almost hit a juvenile rattler the other day on West Camino Cielo. I saw a deer on the same stretch of the road at 11am yesterday.

Looks like an injury about 2/3 of the way down the body?

Afraid of snakes since childhood. Your picture made me want to pick up my legs and look around lest there be one here!

SO ENVIOUS! Wish I could see a rattler. Haven't had a good snake sighting in a year. Makes me want to cry with happiness that people are allowing snakes to go on their way, live their happy lives. Why am I not seeing these rattlers, bats, thrashers, great whites? Must get out more.

Woohooo!!!! The one we saw last week was longer than 5 feet! Be warned fruit-tree-clearing-ground-squirrels! Your days are numbered! Bwaaahahahaha!

Once the rattlers get about 5 feet long, they will eat ground squirrels, but before that the squirrels pose too much of a threat of injury.

We've had many in the yard this year. They've been rather slow and very polite. No rattling, but just moving on their merry way. One had 12 rattles! I'm happy they're here, keeping the rodent population in check!!! If only they'd eat ground squirrells.... sigh.

Beautiful snake. Frightening to have in your yard, but so important to our ecosystem. Thank you for photographing it instead of killing it!

We have had at least four big ones this summer, in our neighborhood. By Cathedral Oaks and 154.
