Very cool! I had no idea they had some of that stuff up there. Worth taking a look. Thanks!

Sounds like quite a vacation and you kept the money local - good on you!! I avoid the valley these days because so many people drink and drive up there. Even a light buzz can fuzz up someone's day. I used to drink and drive, but no more of that for me....even if it's "just a little."

When we first moved to CA we heard that Santa Barbara was a great to place to visit, vacation and that seniors retired here. We opted to transfer to SB before we reached retirement age.

So we have enjoyed that long "staycation" since 1966, while working and rearing a family. And the closeness to the Santa Ynez Valley and its quaintness gave us such a delightful menu of places to bring out of town guests to show off more of our area..

I remember our very first jaunt up the hill . We left cool Santa Barbara and soon found ourselves in heat over 100 degrees , and yet sometimes, we can look up from SB after a rain and see snow. What a fantastic place. Plus we have the ocean and island views.

How often we are immune to the beauty around us, but it is there if we take the time to enjoy it.

Loved the pics. .Our new chosen staycation in Baja is very similar.and we have ponies and an ostrich. Thanks for sharing.

Lauren, Good for you, having fun and, as someone said, keeping the money local. Try the town of Santa Ynez sometime for an outing; nice little shops, a great museum and an excellent selection of good resturants. Just walking around the tiny town is fun and relaxing. It's almost like another whole world to go "over the mountain".
