928, You're right about what "local" means to some. The owners of a coffee place here in Carp have a sign out front, "local organic coffee". I keep meaning to go in and find out where the "local" coffee plantation is. Love local lobster.

I am curious as to why people continue to eat lobsters. Lobsters are such cool creatures. Ever since I saw how they walk across the ocean floor, all in a line, with antennae touching the lobster in front of them-----I refuse to eat such beautiful and innocent animals. Keeping them in filthy tanks, with their claws rubberbanded is cruel and horrible. Go veggie.

Yes they get a much better price but that means you would have to Live There to enjoy it. How does that price suit you??

I like when a local restaurant has "fresh local Ahi" on the menu. Local is a very large area. I guess it came from the Pacific and that makes it local.

Japan pays more to the fisherman than we do. So they get the lobster, and we have to pay what they pay if we want local bugs.

Supply and demand...some percentage of local California lobster goes straight from the boat to airplanes to be sold in Asia for lots of $$$

I like California lobsters. I remember one time my wife and I were having dinner at a local restaurant, close to the kinkoes on state street. The waiter said tonight we are serving fresh local lobster. I ask are these frozen fresh lobsters. He said no they were recently caught. This was in the month of June. I ask him if he knew that lobster season had been closed for over two months. He told me I need to talk to the manager.

Cash only means...the tax structure needs to change so cash business owners/employees pay taxes, too. A lot of cash business around and Uncle Sam thinks they are un-employed and we gives them food stamps for that drawn butter. Looks yummy!

843P Not only that but they fed lobsters to inmates who complained about the frequency of having to eat lobsters as if it were bologna sandwiches like prisoners get now-a-days.

Did you know that the abundance of lobsters was such that they were used to feed cattle in the 1800's? It's true!

I love avocados, but I LOOOOOVE lobster more! This breaks my heart, cuz I really like our local spiny lobster but the Maine lobster is soooo much better, and apparently, obscenely affordable....let's see, can I afford a plane ticket to Maine?....hmmmm.

Yeah, what 798 said. Such a glut of lobsters in Maine this year the lobstermen aren't making any profit.

Maine had a major glut of lobsters this year driving prices down. Supply V. Demand.

I visited Boston a couple times and enjoyed standing at a counter at Faneuil Hall, where I ate (with great relish!) 1-1/2 lb. Maine lobsters for $10 -- steamed, cracked and served piping hot with drawn butter. My tummy gurgles with the memory! I think I ate one every day of my time there.
