That's great I don't like them when I am camping.

I was once tent camping with family next to a big RV. They promptly woke us up each morning with a generator. It was a nice RV - I saw inside there was a chandelier hanging over the dinette table (not kidding).

Camping with a generator for appliances/lights is not camping, it's hanging out. The whole point of camping is to leave that stuff behind you, to simplify and focus in on the natural beauty and ambiance, to give yourself a rest from the bells & whistles of being wired into the grid.

Though for some who are addicted, it would be tough. For them I suggest a motel. Leave campgrounds for those who appreciate the rustic qualities rather than try to make them into a mini version of their town abode.

It sounds as though if you love your generator that much, you're gonna have to sleep with it!

Totally with 794 & 807. I went camping in Colorado for the first time after camping at Refugio/Carp/El Cap for years... I was STUNNED at how polite and quiet people were compared to our beaches. No blaring music at 8 a.m., no drunk students up late, no one shouting or running around like crazy. Missed the ocean but loved the people!

@830 lol - yeah camping next to someone with a generator all night? You're worry about campfires burning down your RV? Try the Hilton.....

@794, 772, 784

Lovely that you like camping that way. Clearly that's not for everyone. Personally, I think I'd rather have people using a generator during high fire season than running a campfire all night. Stupid people make poor choices.

If you don't want to camp in an area that has generators, don't camp in one. Most sites have generator hours that end at 8pm.

You need a generator way out in the sticks, but beware of the sand thrower!

Who in the name of Jove needs a generator when camping?

I'm with 772P and 784P. What happened to the good ol' days when camping was a chance to "get away from it all"?

Sorry to hear about the stolen generators.

@787 - Was the dog a pit bull?

This happened while we were camping there earlier this summer. Our camping 'neighbors' also took a cooking grill from our campsite. Friends saw it hidden toward the back of their site and went over, confronted them, and took it. They played dumb, like it just 'appeared there'. LA crowd brings a different vibe. These people also had a dog which they allowed to poop on their site and they didn't pick it up. Gross.

Call me a curmudgeon, but I h8 it whenI'm just hanging out by the campfire and the neighbors fire up the generator, outdoor party lights, and sound system. Grrr.

That's when I get out the earbuds, call it bedtime, and douse the fire in the hopes the steam and smoke blow their way.

Old news - take a generator to the Rincon and see how long it lasts!!!

They might be stolen out of a garage too.

Bummer!

I remember the days of camping sans electric generators. What about a campfire & flashlight, then turn in early?

I say if you need that much expensive gear, stay at a nice, comfy hotel.
