Is this one of those ships whose electronics might KO our garage door openers? That happened several years ago with the USS Ronald Reagan, if I remember correctly.

The ship is coming, no thanks to Lois Capps. Capps attempted to cut funding for USS Halsey. her attempts were defeated in 2001.

Your point being, 401...? Or were you just looking for an excuse to bash Rep. Capps?

Halsey departed for her maiden deployment 6 August 2006 under her second commanding officer, Commander Pinckney.[4] 2 November 2006 Halsey visited Kagoshima, Japan. That night, after a party for visiting local Japanese dignitaries, during which on-duty crew were drinking, there was a fire which damaged one of the main reduction gears. An incomplete report was filed and months later another fire and explosion brought to light the extent of the first fire. The ship's commander was relieved and the damage to the ship was $8.5 million.[5]

This arrogant and aggressive example of our fixation on military excess should be embarrassing to any person who remembers the origin of this nation and our avowed policy of neutrality and non-entanglement in foreign affairs. And why do we need a world wide fleet unless it is to expand the US as an imperial power? The advertising on TV about the US Navy as a "world force for peace" is more bizarre. Who gave us this mission, who defines what is acceptable "peace" is in this context? Why do we spend almost as much as the rest of the world on war preparation? Because it is good for the multi-national corporations is the best answer I can come up with.

It's sad that there are people who seem to know no history, and think that peace is a default state if you do nothing. These people often think the police and laws in general are repressive, too.

Don't need to look any further than our sky-high incarceration rates to know that our laws and policing are a little repressive right now, 799P.
