Amazing how blatant law enforcement agencies are about forcing us into bankruptcy with these overtime billing scams. Good for gun sales, though. How many of these arrests were based on high breathalyser readings due to intentional misuse of a breathalyser, how many forged Trombetta waivers for a blood test.

100 that's still a lot but the bigger picture is clear: people are still drinking and driving. I can't say that this avoid the twelve is a success. I almost got caught in one as I changed clothes and didn't have my billfold with me.

Watch out for the "Wet and Reckless". You could be at a .04 and have a moving violation. With the wrong cop - you get a wet and reckless ticket and the consequences are about as bad as a DUI. I like to wait until I get home to start pounding the 18 pack - and then I don't drive!!!!

The death penalty... uh, unless it's my mom. I love the arrogance of the get tougher crowd. A good 50% of you will either get a DUI yourself - in this sleepy, almost crime free, suburb where cops have no better way to try to justify their relatively safe and cushy jobs with fat benefits and pensions (all at our expense) - or someone you love will. That'll change your smug attitude in a period of hours. The laws are already tougher. It has helped some but those who believe that we can eliminate DUI by further erosions of what is meant by a "free society" probably believe in the Easter bunny too.

Stiffer penalties do not deter the repeat DUI person with an alcohol addiction. They will drive drunk, suspended license, no license, etc. Stiffer penalties just make it more difficult for the first time offender that blew 0.08 to pay all of the resulting bills. And make the government coffers fuller so they can pay for all of the overtime that the cops are charging to maintain these checkpoints. You don't think they are getting standard pay for these extra duties, do you? It is your federal tax dollar reimbursing the 12 agencies for their overtime costs at about $150/hr.

A big THANK YOU to law enforcement for this. I'm in favor of much stiffer penalties, especially for repeat DUI offenders.

Am I a prude, or isn't it common sense that the best thing is to drive with NO alcohol in your system, or if you absolutely have to, very little, well after having it--with food? I can't believe I am reading people claiming it improves their driving to have two beers. Really can't believe it.

I commute over the Pass and whenever I see a driver weaving, crossing the double yellow, passing unsafely, etc. I find the next good place to pull over safely and report them to 911.

I read a study once that 25% of drivers in the Phoenix area between 10pm-2am on weekends are legally drunk. If that's true here, there should be a lot more than 100 DUIs in 11 days.

Please don't feed the regular "I drink & drive I always hide my beer I'm a better driver" troll. And the press release says "on Friday Aug. 29" Wow, I hope it's their typo, not my mind.

Thanks for doing your job so effectively SBPD and CHP, excluding Michael Mallory and any other cops who drive under the influence themselves.

045, over the limit does not mean impaired. 057, I am probably the guy that mentioned drinking beers on the way home. I do it on a regular basis, in fact. I'm a better driver "over the limit" than you are sober.

It's time to double the penalties. And if that doesn't work, double them again... until it stops!

Did anyone else see the comment a while back re: checkpoints, wherein the one guy wrote how he loves to have his "two beers" while driving home after a hard day's work? That really got me. How anyone could be so nonchalant about their impaired driving . . . My mother always told me to drive "like everyone is out to get you." She had it right. And to think that these morons (boozers and druggies) are driving home on the 101, not just on city streets. Yow. CHP, Sheriffs and SB Police------go get 'em!

Actually DUI doesn't only mean drinking and driving. There are many drugs legal and illegal that can impair a driver.

Most of those arrests are at checkpoints, and thus are catching unimpaired drivers who happen to have a BAC near the legal limit.
