It was more than just .... into a sign post. The vehicle went off the freeway, up a big hill and took out the Winchester Canyon sign. Very sad.

CHP website said it was northbound, but the big hill with the sign would have to be southbound with the newly built hill and ramp.

There is an article on this over at Noozhawk, with pictures. The SUV doesn't appear to have much damage. It was on the southbound side. Can't help but wonder if foul play was involved. The accident is unlikely the actual cause of death, based on the images and the "crime scene" mentioned in the article.

Very interesting. CHP reports investigating as "crime scene." As of now (12:15 pm) no mention at all on any of the other local outlets - KEYT, KCOY, KSBY, News-Press, Independent. What gives?

This was turned over to the SBSO - they are continuing the investigation. It's an awful way to lose someone and I hope the person's family gets the support they will need. And 394...you are most likely correct.

Not that any place in particular seems like a good place to commit suicide, but while driving? Never heard (or thought) of that one before. Tragic (and bizarre).
