Excellent work! It does bother me that twice the number of drivers without a valid license were on the road and I'm guessing these people had no insurance, either---this seems to be a growing problem throughout the County, and probably throughout the Country. As a youngster, driving illegally was considered a BIG mistake---seems it's not such a big deal anymore....any readers know what actually happens if you're caught these days?

The uninsured driver problem could be solved by having insurance paid at the gas pump. Simple solution, but big political problem to implement.

I note they don't do these third world check points in Hastings Ranch or Montecito. Why is that?

Julian, Its simple math. There are 1000's of people in downtown SB on any given weekend night. There might be a hundred or two in Montecito... There is no conspiracy or ulterior motive. Why on earth would they set up a costly and large operation in a place that sees a fraction of traffic? Makes no sense at all, regardless of the material makeup of your hat... in this case tin and or aluminum??

Should do a checkpoint on the Mesa and Las Positas! Those are the backroads of choice!
