A classic demonstration of limited dynamic range of most cameras .... the highlights are blown to pure white and the shadows plugged to black. Cameras just can't handle the extreme brightness levels that the eye can. To get around it photogs will either use software to blend multiple images together that were exposed for details in the brightest and darkest parts (high dynamic range) or use filters to darken the brightest parts so they are with the camera's dynamic range with the darks to expose well together in a single image.
