First offenders often get the same result. Depends on many variables. Her celebrity notwithstanding -- she had a good lawyer.

Weekly classes for 9 months, fines, lawyer fees, plus the annual increase in auto insurance for the next 10 years...$50,000. No big deal.

Sounds like she got a standard first offender sentence. With the exception of having herself videotaped for TMZ posterity. Nothing to see here, folks.... move it along.

Sounds like she actually handled it maturely. Gonna have to agree with Roger on this one though, one's social status should not affect your punishment for crimes committed. Being a media icon in no way makes your more important than the next guy who has to do the time. Hopefully she learned her lesson, and becomes an advocate to prevent future drunk drivers.

Agreed, -686 - IMO Genis would have said she was not guilty and that the cops who arrested her are crooked or that they screwed up. Lengthy probation, a fine, DUI school, suspended jail sentence - all seems reasonable for a first offense misdemeanor DUI with no injuries and no trial - regardless of celebrity.

If she wasn't a celebrity it wouln't be news. She has a really amazing career and I am sure that she is working to keep that career. She had a good lawyer and got the same type of deal that other people with a lawyer get, nothing extra.

She's a pretty good sized star in the food network world, she's an Iron Chef.... she made a mistake, was lucky nobody got hurt, is going to pay way more for it than you or I would because she has a celebrity reputation at stake on top of the normal fines & consequences. She's paying her dues, let her be, it's not that exciting.

She got off easy. Happens when you're a celebrity, have money or are a high profile person. It's sad that the only time people who are in these categories see jail time is when some judge is trying to make an example of them or prove they are hardline. It would be nice to have a happy medium....call me crazy, but justice shouldn't care if you're on tv sometimes or not. She could have killed someone and should have been treated accordingly.

Second offense has mandatory jail time usually served on the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program (SWAP), 18 month DUI program, 12 month DL suspension that is not reistanted until completion of the DUI program and fines.

You don't know what your talking about many fist offenders get thousands in fines not a piddley 2,300 hundred. Many first timers lose their licence for a year, and also attend AA Meetings. And I have never heard off a delayed mug shot anywhere but here. But then concerning other crimes in Santa Barbara many people seem to get little or no time..Crime and Justice has merged as partners and CRIME does pay. Unless your POOR...

For how long will my driving privilege be suspended if I took the chemical test? If you are 21 years of age or older, took a blood or breath test, or (if applicable) a urine test, and the results showed 0.08% BAC or more: A first offense will result in a 4-month suspension. A second or subsequent offense within 10 years will result in a 1-year suspension. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/driversafety/dsalcohol.htm

this is standard. in my decade or so in santa barbara i've had plenty of acquaintances get the exact same punishment. roger, she probably had to pay her lawyer a similar amount to the fine, most people include their lawyer's rate when they talk about the "fees" associated with a dui which is why you might think her cost was lower, it's not. at least the zona seca group she's in will be treated to some celebrity entertainment, maybe she'll bake cookies for one of their meetings. fees aside the mandated dui classes are the worst part (so i've heard). plus you gotta pay top dollar for that instruction too. i've seen too many people make the same mistake she did, it'll always be a taxi for me, wheeee!
