This is going to be part of Sansum Clinic. The poles they put up a couple of months ago show it to be quite large. There was quite an Edhat discussion on it, mostly due to increased traffic.

Mr. Potter, er, Mr. Towbes strikes again. Big buildings, big traffic, big impacts. But he's oh, so benevolent.

Have they cleaned the area yet? After there has been a service station there is a lot of work to get rid of any Contaminated soil & under ground tanks.

The tanks have been gone for years-only the Monitoring wells remain. The wells may be left as-is for access under the new parking lot-or they may have to put in new wells. In other former gas station sites I have seen these wells still in place long after the tanks are gone.

I live in the area and the property has been undergoing remediation for some time now...not sure how long of a process it entails, but it's been in place for years. Someone tried to make a go of a deli/produce stand quite awhile back, unfortunately it was poorly run and closed almost immediately...too bad, seems like it would be a great location as a last stop for folks heading up to the NF and Lake Cachuma. Sorry to hear it will become more big buildings.

SBJULES - The cleaning process had to have been done many years ago. The station has been out of service for decades and the law requires it to be cleaned before the land can be sold.

The State remediation standards have been downgraded recently, due to State budget woes and EPA pressure, thus rendering the status of many properties as "clean" now. Public announcement of the "clean" status of each affected property is required with a 30 day public response period. Such announcements usually go to the property owner and relevant neighbors.

OP here, for my 38 years of living in SB that gas station was there according to my memory. Bittersweet to see it gone and a large chunk of undeveloped land soon to become developed. Cringing that now as a neighbor I may be impacted by more Sansum traffic, Pesetas clinic already can be a bit much. Just wanted to note the ol gas station is finally down...

I guess I am showing my age here. I remember way back in the early 70's there were two gas stations there. A Mobil and a Chevron, or Standard Station as well. Does anyone else remember the Standard Stations?

FINALLY they cleared out that old wreck! The Chevron disappeared decades ago and yet this old relic - with it's mailbox adorned with a bandana - remained. Whew Now comes the hard part, heavy equipment and lots of building.

I have mixed feelings since I use Sansum, but the area really had been a eyesore for some time. I imagine the residents aren't happy about construction mess and my aerobics' carpool drives by there three times a week.

798, you are correct, there were two gas stations! I walked by them on the way to/from school sometimes.
