Thanks Roger. Good info, good read, good outcome. (By the way & not to offend Ed by posting, but I emailed Ed to say my 2 cents: I want more Code Reds. I hope I was not the only one who did so, and I'm glad it did not become a thread. So if you want to put your 2 cents in, email Ed(hat.)

If you leave your keys in the car and it is stolen and totaled, or not recovered, your insurance won't pay. Don't leave the keys, it's DUMB!

I live at the top of Fairview and was hearing tons of sirens right around this time. I also heard quite a few when I woke up this morning (6:15ish). Did you hear anything else significant in the Goleta area this morning Roger?

CHP should bill those who attract and enable this transient population. Many of the transients act as if they own the streets and the parks. I am no longer comfortable going to this park. I have been harassed there on my way to the beach or pool.

Who leaves their keys in their car?? Especially downtown at the park where are the homeless hang out!! That's just dumb!! People really shock me. Yes in SB you must lock your car doors and take your keys with you - even in your own driveway. AND lock your house up also. So crazy!! This isn't Mayberry folks!

Thanks for the good reporting Roger! What kind of an idiot would ever leave their keys in the car in an area that has been taken over by the transients or anywhere else for that matter. This owner could have been responsible for injuries or deaths on that police chase.

605 Why on Earth would the car's owner be responsible? Yes the keys were left in the car but that does not give anyone the right to take something that isn't theirs. To shift the blame from the person who committed the crime is insane. People should not have to lock everything just so other people don't take their property. It is so sad that people would attack someone because they did not expect the worst of the people in that area.

I don't think the owner of the vehicle realized where he was. Might have been a tourist. You know how they all think the American Riveria is Disneyland? Suspect actually drove passed the CHP Office it is funny. She had to know she was pretty much done when she went into that neighborhood.

We've created a culture of victim blaming, MSSB. Rather than blame the people who commit the crimes, we blame the people upon which crimes are committed.

People will be quick to blame the owner until they are the owner and forget the keys in their car. There is nobody in the world who is 100% responsible with everything they do 100% of the time. Thieves are much quicker to pick up on our mistakes than we are, too.

It's not just the ops blaming the owner for being careless, even the insurance carriers won't pay for damage done or replacement costs for a car if the owner left the keys in the car. Of course the drunken transient was to blame for the deed, but who made it possible? 07 you are correct no one is 100%, but there are certain things that you just don't ever do and leaving your keys in the car is one of them.....that goes for leaving your kids or dog in the car too.
We "wish" Santa Barbara was that safe little town it once was, but sadly it isn't.
