I heard that along time ago something he might have been connected with some unsolved homicides around here. A member of the Manson Family is actually from Santa Barbara.

I was a teenager living in Simi Valley, which was very close to Spawn Ranch. A few of my friends had older siblings that had joined Manson's group.

It is not surprising. In the period from 1967 to 1971 Santa Barbara and UCSB had become a hot bed for radical politics. One of the sympatyheticaly minded "families" and later organized "Symbioneze Liberation Army" went to UCSB at the time that an innocent Janitor was blown up while cleaning up the UCSB faculty club by a bomb planted there. The prime suspect, a notorious bomb maker for these creeps, was finally arrested in Africa only a few years ago where he had fled from the U.S. from charges of trying to blow up occupied police cars and other homocide investigations. Unfortunately too much time had passed to connect him by physical evidence to the UCSB murder. The state of forensic evidence collection 40 years ago was not what it is today.

You are right, Roger. Bobby Beausoleil was born on SB in 1947 and was one of the Manson family. He was convicted of killing Gary Hinman in July, 1969 after a drug deal gone bad. He (Bobby) was 22 at the time of his conviction in 1970 and was an aspiring muscian/actor. He is serving a life sentence in an Oregon State prison. Gary Hinman's was aparently the first of several senseless murders perpetrated by Charlie Manson, and is said to hevemarked the beginning of "helter skelter". Bobby has been denied release by the parole board, and at one of his more recent hearinmgs the board was a little put off that he is marketing his music and art from prison. Most likely Chalie Manson came to SB because of his association with Bobby Beausoleil.

Interesting story. I looked up the address in assessor records and 705 Bath is not listed. Assessor lists show the lowest 700 address on Bath being 711. Hmmm...the mystery thickens...

I'm at a loss as to why this obscure fact would matter to anyone.
