The pond badly needs regular attention from someone qualified in pond management to get it balanced and healthy again. The koi die-off proved that need. An opportunity for one of the schools to step in with some interns.

The entire park needs attention. Over the past several years I've noticed insufficient maintenance and an overall deterioration of the grounds. I chalked it up to budget problems. It's still pretty, but the rough edges are showing and showing.

It looks like there are too many lily pads in the pond to me.

Take a plastic basin and fill it with water.... leave it outside in the sun for a couple of days and take note of the surface level. Now refill the basin with water and add a bunch of lily pads. Take note of the change in surface levels over several days. Did the presence of the lilypads change the rate at which the water levels changed before and if so was it to slow it down or speed it up? Or was there no change? Take pictures and report back to us with your results, please.

There has been a water leak on Philinda Ave. for a long time. The street gutter is always flowing. Could that wasted water be used to refill the pond?

Where are the "Friends of the Alice Keck Park" when you need them? If the City has really cut staff and pay and benefits to save money, then maybe those of us that care about the park should get together and figure out how to maintain it better. What do you think?

Is that what is happening? I called Parks & Rec concerned that the water was not moving anywhere at the creeks, or in the pond at the rock pump, like the pump is broken or something. That's just what I noticed, not an expert, sounds like commentors before me agree...

Anyone notice? The Parks/Rec department has had a lot of budget cuts the last couple of years. The managers have stayed, but the active work staff has been reduced.

too many ducks there as well as all those turtles -- and yes, the lily pads need pruning. there used to be someone who waded in there and tended them. caught a glimpse of one, just one koi the other day.

City government has decided to ignore basic maintenance as a cost cutting measure. The whole town is a mess.

The people who complain about taxes and always vote against against taxation (which for the most part isn't paid by them) and complain that the city should be going after gangs or the homeless downtown where they never go or whatever it is that they are angry about instead of the sensible things that the city does do are the same ones who complain that the government isn't doing whatever it is they want done ... they're the same ones who carry signs saying "keep the government's hands off my medicare" and plan to vote for the folks who intend to eliminate it.
