Cue the Cottage Hospital neighbors complaints... Doesn't sound that good. Horses can be scary, they are huge easily spooked animals. Hope everyone ends up OK.

FIVE people were trampled by one horse? There has to be more to this story. Horses generally don't attack people.

Does it seem to others like any chance they get they send a helicopter? (FYI I have been trampled by a horse after being thrown and did not use transport to the hospital-but can see how easily it can become a major injury)

D8VANILLA: Oh, please, give Roger a break! If he doesn't hear more on the radio, would you have him make something up just to give us a story? He always posts as he hears a call... and when more comes in, he updates. Love ya, Roger, and I have NO complaints about you, your reporting, or your off-the-cuff writing style. As you have revealed more and more of yourself and your present and past lives, you have endeared yourself to many of us. Thanks for what you do.

With the comments about RodgerDodger, now there are 6 trampling victims from this incident. Is that a record for a horse, or what?

Wow, I have seen some pretty reckless behavior at several area barns. I got fired from one and had to go to an unemployment hearing. I won my case, only to be told after, that they get a re-do because they did not attend the hearing. Well then, who the hell was that sitting across from me? I got fired for not hurrying the horses and riders over large rocks because a garbage truck was in the street that we had to cross after manuvering around the boulders at the bottom of the trail. I felt it best to wait, while the barn manager screamed at me to hurry the horses. I won again. Not to mention another hearing against another owner of an "academy". It's true, if you bring attention on the negative behavior of your boss, you will win every time.

Get to the choppa! Nah, doesn't seem to be any helicopters involved, per the story all six victims were thrown in the back of one ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital. Makes you wonder how all six were secure in the back of an ambulance that has only one stretcher and a bench. Hmm...

The ksby story indicates the riders were thrown from spooking horses, not trampled. Also, nothing indicates reckless behavior on the part of Circle Bar B. I've ridden there many times, am experienced with horses, and I have never witnessed anything other than professionalism on the part of staff and management. Speculation can be damaging. I hope all involved will be ok.

Will I report what I hear on the scanner I heard "Trampled" I never said anything about reckless behavior on the part of Circle B staffers..Look if you would like to take me to court I'm more than willing to go..I'll get me a lawyer and turn the tables on whomever wants to trample me..Whatever goes over a police scanner is Public Information. I did not do anything wrong but I see some people around here only like to hear about how horrible gangs and homeless people are.

a group of five goes on a trail ride, five horses smell or see something they don't like and decide to bolt because the riders don't really know how to ride. I hope the horses are ok, they ride them very hard at that rental barn.

Those horses are bomb proof and are used to nervous people. Give them an opportunity to go back to the barn, and of course, they will go.

I lived in the Gaviota area for most of my life and have taken nieces, nephews and my grandchildren on rides at Circle Bar-B too many times to count. The horses have always been well-behaved, the pre-ride instructions very good, and a good wrangler/guide always leading the way. A few have taken their role beyond wrangler and shared lots of info about the history, lore, flora and fauna of the area. It just takes one rider who marks "experienced" on the application when he or she is a novice who can cause chaos and potential harm to the others. I suspect Circle Bar-B will start making the riders wear helmets as most of the other horse rental services do, if they haven't already started to do so. It may prevent or reduce the potential for some injuries, but you have to let go of the cowboy hat option.
