Probably still looking for that meal some well-intentioned do-gooders decided to remove from the food chain a few weeks back. Poor thing must be hungry - fortunately it remains a conoisseur of only the finest seal meat and hasn't resorted to those bony, low-fat surfers... yet. Maybe next time we shouldn't steal food out its mouth?

Show me the way to go home. I'm tired and I want to go to bed. I had a little drink about an hour ago and it's gone right to my head. Wherever I may roam, by land or sea or foam. You can always hear me singin' this song, show me the way to go home, bome bome bome. Show me the way to go home. Bome bome bome. I'm tired and I want to go to bed. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'. The ocean turns red, and despite all the poundin' and the hollerin', they all come in and they... rip you to pieces.

Hey, Whitey here. I just love the taste of seal fat! Please stop picking up the hurt ones. That's what I am here for! Wash the deadbeats down State Street and I'll wait at the end of the wharf if you'd like me to chomp them instead. Otherwise, please leave my food alone and I'll leave YOU alone. Thanks-- the man in the grey suit

@308482, The GW shark is not proposed as an endangered species. Actually, some non-profit groups submitted a petition to the Fed government to designate the species as Endangered Species this month--BUT--The petition doesn't mean that the species will be put on the list, and if it is, it will not be anytime soon. Reviewing a petition can take years to decades. Anyone can file a petition to add a species whether it has merit or not, so there is no guarantee that the petition will be successful. We'll have to wait and see!

Maybe we should close SB in case the shark gets crafty and tries to take a cab up State Street, looking for Sharkeez.

Finally, the men in the black suits might be back. We've been living on borrowed time since the Russians hunte vall the otters, seals, sea lions, etc.

Santa Barbara summer, where the mountains meet the ocean, where the coyotes come down from the hills and the sharks come in from the deep, like two slices of bread converging, snack time.

Great humor people! Stay safe! I don't remember any shark sightings when I was a child, several days a week at the (Henry's in my time) beach and Sunday's at the Rincon with Dad. But then, Jaws had not yet been made.

I was surfing about 6 miles north of Santa Cruz several years back when a baby great white (about 3' long) beached itself. There were some bite marks on its tail... kinda ironic, eh? My buddies and I VERY carefully got the beautiful beast back in the water and on its way. I'm hoping that karma carries with me for a lot more surf sessions.

Before the SB incident, a baby Harbor seal was gashed near the Seal Sanctuary in Carp. Picture is in today's Coastal View, along with the article. City has posted shark alert notices near the sanctuary, but the State beach and City beach (where most folks go) is not posted and is jammed with visitors. Well, you know the odds...about like winning the lottery.

Yes 846, the coyotes are coming down from the hills and have eaten two small dogs in the S.Y.V. They also love ripe grapes. Never a dull moment.

So in three days I'm no longer swimming at my own risk? Whose risk is it then, who can I sue? In all seriousness, thanks for the heads up and keeping our beaches safer.

@846 Two slices of bread huh? I'd liken that to a loaf on one side and a ritz cracker on the other. Coyotes aren't going to hurt you unless your a pet or an unsupervised 8 months old. Bad rap for the yotes. Bears used to be heavy though... until we killed them all:( or maybe :)

I was out swimming at East beach yesterday around 5:30PM and thought I saw a huge dark outline of something moving below me. I chalked it up to seaweed. If it was a GWS, perhaps it didn't like my scent. Not fishy enough. I'll train in Los Banos next week.
