We were driving back from the airport at 3:15 and there were two CHP motorcycles driving really slow with their lights on in the breakdown lane on the 217 before the Hollister exit, looking in the bushes. Wonder if that had anything to do with this.

Yes they were looking for a subject that fled thru there.. I thought they got one but I'm really not sure. I heard there were two subjects in the van at 945 Ward Drive. I was listening to another call in the city when I heard the passenger of the van had fled into the Kellogg street area. A few moments after that witnesses stated that 2 went out the back of the van wearing back packs and riding bicycles..I don't know if one of them was the driver or if there were 4 subjects in the vehicle and 3 got away or what? It soundes like 3 got away. There have been other calls also commanding my attention also so I might have missed something. Sounds like there is some fighting going on around town.

I live off of Hollister and San Ricardo and when I left my place around 330ish on San Ricardo there was 2 cop cars and a motorcycle cop that were surrounding a guy on a bike with a backpack on.

Luckily, I have a 1994 Ford no one would want. I always figure, if it was stolen, they deserve it. Runs great, never any trouble, but looks like H---.

Does anyone know why the steal license plates? Do they use them to commit other crimes or sell them to folks who commit other crimes?

People steal legit license plates to put on stolen vehicles. Usually same type of car too. Gives them extra time to run. They often replace the stolen ones with another set so nobody calls in those plates. If you ever notice the wrong plates on your car, somebody swapped them to drive a stolen auto, same make and model. Smart but ruthless. Imagine getting pulled over by police at gunpoint while they think you have a stolen auto, just to find out someone swapped your plates.
