It is now red alert fire season. I hope who ever cleared this trail did so with a permit and with all safety precautions. Thanks is not sufficient if in fact another amateur trail clearer put all of our lives and homes at risk .... again.

715: Your negative post is only negative because you assume the worst. Try the positive spin - someone got the necessary permits & took all safety precautions, and did a fantastic job, and people using the now clear trail are appreciative. YAY!!!

I agree with 715. The Jesusita Trail is public land. Any rogue hiker should not be allowed to brush clear with or without a permit. There should be volunteer days where the people who actually use the trail and or live nearby gather as an organized event. With proper tools and supervision people working together can clear this trail and be safe while doing it.

@306741 306715 did not assume anything, merely stated a preference to be hoped for. You, OTOH, flat out asserted something for which there is no evidence.

Some of us lived through the worst. We assumed nothing. Amateur hacks have no place on our trails "cleaning up". Red alert fire season should put all of us on very high alert for facts and not showering praise for activities that put thousands of lives in potential peril. Red alert changes the rules for me: these types of wild land activities are guilty until proven innocent. Hey folks, it is RED ALERT fire season. We all need to live with the consequences of what this means in every action we all now take, observe, support or condone.

I saw them go up. It was a proffesional team, about 15 of them. Only saw hand tools. Now I will jump on my atv and take a ride up the hill to shoot some clay pigeons. Sorry about the noise trail users.

On July 15th, Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers went up Jesusita to clear and brush trails. I joined them, and have done it plenty of times in the past. SBMTV had all the permissions and permits for all the work we did. A Los Padres Forest service personnel was along and helped. I think #715 walked past us and gave us a similar lecture. Everyone else thanked us. Please join us once a month for trail maintenance. Schedule is on our website And to the original poster, thanks for acknowledging and your welcome.

How great to mock those who suffered in the last Jesusita fire? Too bad the first post did not include salient facts rather than self-contratulatory drivel. Darn right you yeehaws are going to get scolded until you establish your credibility. Which remain mere electrons on a page at this point. Any possible post touting trail clean-up should include red alert fire precautions and recognition of prior incidents, if there is to be any credibility gained instead of resorting immediately to public reproach for reasonable concerns. This trails organization has a long way to go with their public image if they think Jesuita fire was just one big joke.

715, read above. SBMTV had "all the permissions and permits" for the work that was done and forest service supervision. if you have a problem with that take it up with the forest service.

To Commenter 781P. There are organized trail clearing events once a month. They are conducted with proper tools, permissions and supervision. People working together can clear this trail and be safe while doing it. Again, check the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Volunteer web page to find out how and when you can get involved!
