OMG! A vacant lot! Infill quick! The lot looks it could hold 30 condos with room for commercial space on the ground floor! Actually, I remember it being a tennis court at on time.

Whenever I see an empty lot I wonder why there can't be a neighborhood garden there, for vegetables and flowers (I love gardening, raising our vegetables).

It is part of the property owned by Unity Church on Arrellaga Street. The house behind the tree is also part of their property (Unity House).

One of the Safina brothers has gotten so aggravated with the city over trying to get permits to repair and renovate rentals he owns that he has razed several of them and left the lots vacant. So much for affordable housing.

It's nice to see some undeveloped lots and I also wonder how it happens that the proprietors have kept them without building. Anyone have pictures or stories of other such lots in the downtown area?

Yes, Unity House and its property used to be used for weddings and other events. I sure would not want an event on that lawn they have let die.....

I hope the poor economy keeps some of these open lots from being developed with ugly crowded "creative" uses. The little lot at 408 Garden St with the jaguar painting is now defaced with an eyesore of a building that blocks the view of the mountains (and the jaguar) that used to greet us at Garden St.. How it ever got approved is a mystery and a dissaster for the neighborhood. Oh yeah, the lot belonged to the City.

Private property is meant to be private. Keep your mitts off of it with all your suggestions about what other people should be doing with their property. How environmentally valid is maintaining a lawn anyway.
