For your information: The statistical chance of suffering serious adverse side effects from the shots are far higher than the chance of coming down with the viruses they "protect" you from. For instance- for the Pneumococcal (PCV) vaccine, 3500/100,000 people suffered SERIOUS side effects, while the chance of contracting it is 10/100,000!! And even if you get it, only 6% die from it. These are numbers from Pfizer's insert and the CDC. Shots are a scam. Sign the religious waiver at your school, which anyone can, and relax! If you were to take a flight from LAX-NY, would you get on the flight that had a 3.5% chance of crashing, or a .00006% chance of crashing? DUH.....

A friend in their 50's got pertussis (whooping cough) recently. Us adults might want to check on our vax status too, especially if working with young or old people.

Jenny McCarthy did parents no favor when she started her crazy theories about the cause of autism and Oprah Winfrey has much to be ashamed of for giving her a platform. Medical science over superstition people. Someday, hopefully, the actual cause of autism will be found along with either a cure or even better, a prevention. But, for now, vaccinate your children and keep them safe from great harm. 179, I would hope that eventually, when enough harm has been done, that there will be a law, and there will be no waivers. Public schools have an obligation to keep students safe and having all children vaccinated is part of that. If parents choose to not vaccinate then they should home school.

Government vaccinations? Huh. My daughter is fully immunized. I am almost fully immunized (I am, unfortunately, allergic to a few vaccines). Each time I took my child to get shots, I was shown the vial or the shot was taken from its package in front of me. I saw words on them like "Novartis", and "Baxter" and "GlaxoSmithKline". Not once did I ever see the words "US Goverment" or "California Department of Public Health" or any thing similar. Our physicians have been private citizens whom I pay with money I earned through my own labors and intelligence. Government vaccines? What ARE you talking about? That said, the county department of health DOES offer low cost and/or free shots to those who need them and we are ALL better off for it. Did you know, one tragic case of measles with severe consequences can leave a financial burden that equals the money needed to vaccinate every child in California? Vaccines! SCIENCE FOR THE WIN!

Keep in mind that the correlation between autism and vaccinations doesn't equal causation. The same age children are getting these vaccinations is about the same age autism is usually diagnosed, there is the correlation. Parents grasp at anything they can to explain why their child has an issue, vaccinations have been the whipping child of choice for autism. Try telling the parents of babies who have died because they were exposed to other children (who weren't vaccinated) with whooping cough that vaccinations aren't necessary.

Being a member of a community holds some inherent responsibilities. The only reason some of these diseases are not eradicated is because of people who do not vaccinate. These people essentially rely on others to vaccinate their kids to keep our population (and their kids) healthy. There is no conclusive proof that vaccines are unsafe. Be a responsible member of society and vaccinate your kids, or move off the grid.

I refuse to vaccinate. Don't worry...I love your hatred of my decision. But, I stand by it. My children will not be guinea pigs, to the pharmacy companies that only care about money, and manipulating the government. :D Not to mention all the ingredients that are in vaccines. Sorry, I refuse to allow my daughters to have aborted fetuses bone marrow in their system! Or, insane amounts of mercury. Thanks, but no thanks! I gladly sign the waiver for vaccines! It's my right, to choose not to vaccinate.

Mercury has been phased out of almost all vaccines. It has been a while since I've checked and I'm not motivated enough to do so right now, but it COULD be that there's no mercury at all right now in vaccines. As to 'aborted baby bone marrow', the only references I can find for this are the development of the rubella vaccine wherein babies aborted were screened for rubella, some was found, the tissue taken, then grown using the lung tissue of another aborted fetus. From that come the strains of rubella used in vaccination today. It is NOT like they're grinding up aborted fetuses and injecting that slush into ours and our childrens' veins, which is what 218 seems to be alluding.

Unfortunately, 218 is just repeating all of the hype that the anti-vaccine movement uses to scare people. What they don't want is for people to remember the terrible effects of diseases like polio and smallpox. Polio hasn't been eradicated like smallpox because there are still pockets of places where they haven't been able to vaccinate the entire population. The same reason why pertussis and other diseases aren't eliminated here, because people won't vaccinate their children. Not because it's a developing country, but because of ignorance or "I love your hate and I'll do it to spite you all" attitudes. That attitude hurts no one but unvaccinated children.

I thought getting mumps as an adult had some serious side effects, wonder how 218 will feel when her choices also effect her grandkids Same for measles (my parents felt similar about immunizations and kept me out of public schools most of my life. I am now immunized so I will not transmit those illnesses to my kids and grand kids)

When I had my daughter, I refused to allow my close friend's children around her because they weren't vaccinated. I hated telling her they weren't allowed in my home anymore, but I couldn't risk them exposing my newborn, who hadn't yet had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated yet, to anything they could have been exposed to because my friend chose not to vaccinate them. My friend was hurt, but I don't think she had considered that when she made the choice not to vaccinate. At least I had the right to say I didn't want unvaccinated children in my home, other parents don't have the right to say they don't want unvaccinated children in schools. It's a shame.

Perhaps there should be a regulation that a child can not attend public school or any public facility unless the parent produces a valid vaccination certificate? Everyone has the right to not vaccinate their children, but they do not have the right to expose others, including adults, school employees, to the consequences of their choices.

Perhaps one vaccine by itself is safe, but what happens to an immune system when it is whacked with multiple vaccines all at once? Remember the Gulf War syndrome that was partially attributed to the 8 vaccines the soldiers received before they were sent off to war? As a result of this I started spacing out the vaccines I get, and give to my pets to let my immune system recover before subjecting it to the next round. My cats and dogs seem to tolerate the vaccines better with fewer side effects (lethargy and lack of appetite). It takes more visits to the vets but has been worth it.

The vaccine fear epidemic was fueled primarily by misplaced value on the options voiced by celebrities and the 1998 Wakefield et al article printed in The Lancet, linking the MMR vaccine with autism and bowel disease. The findings were found to based on deliberately falsified data and many ethics violaions were documented, including subjecting children to unnessary procedures such as colonoscopys and lumbar punctures. The study was officially retracted and the UK pulled his license. The problem is that it took 12 years to do so despite the initial skepticism of the basic science and the small sample size (12 patients). The damage has been done. What we need is one of the Kardashian girls to have a baby and do a show of them vaccinating the kid. Maybe Snokie also. I think the celebrity product placement would have more impact on many than the results of a well conducted clinical trial or meta-analysis.

305179 is wrong, btw. There IS a law. HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE SECTION 120325-120380 120325. In enacting this chapter, but excluding Section 120380, and in enacting Sections 120400, 120405, 120410, and 120415, it is the intent of the Legislature to provide: (a) A means for the eventual achievement of total immunization of appropriate age groups against the following childhood diseases: (1) Diphtheria. (2) Hepatitis B. (3) Haemophilus influenzae type b. (4) Measles. (5) Mumps. (6) Pertussis (whooping cough). (7) Poliomyelitis. (8) Rubella. (9) Tetanus. (10) Varicella (chickenpox). (11) Any other disease deemed appropriate by the department, (etc. etc)

This is to all the non-vaccinators. At nearly 50, I caught chicken pox. Never had it as a kid. Ask me how much fun that was. I'd just started a job at a school and didn't even make it past 90 days. But never mind me, I'm old. Here's how it affected others (remember? others?) There were 2 pregnant women in my department. They were exposed. A person is contagious before they're symptomatic. Did you know that? These are your statistics vs. real life. An unvaccinated student impacted the lives of an unknown number of people. Are we getting through? Or are you still digging in your heels? If I sound mad, it's because I am.

The schools don't tell you, but you can sign a wavier to avoid vaccination. You can download the form, sign it, and turn it in to the school.
