After hearing that 54 million was just found in the park budget during an audit, your darn right I am against a parking fee. Not sure if that affects this but still....

Balance your frigging books like we all do, and quit nickel & diming us to death!!! No more fees! No more fees! Absolutely HAD it with you all. Now, perhaps if you mincy councilpeople were a bit smarter you'd maintain FREE beach parking for locals with a Santa Barbara address on their licenses, since we live here and ALREADY supplement your pensions and everything else, and simply implement a fee for out of town visitors! Der!

Fees for park entrance are primarily a tax on lower income people. The wealthy among us have elegant back yards for relaxation. Perhaps we should charge people who do not use the parks.

Could not imagine trying to go to Goleta beach to fish if there were a parking fee. When I had more spare time, I would often go out there after work 4-5 nights a week. I could greatly see this reducing the number of families who simply take their kids to places like the pier to do fun activities (like fishing). One less place for kids to do something productive I guess.

986 is exactly correct, this won't affect the rich, only the poor. Let's widen the gap some more, shall we? Silly idea.

I like the idea of free parking for SB County residents and charging tourists, but I'll bet most of the cars that go to Arroyo Burro are already residents.

Where I grew up outside of Philly, county residents could use the parks either free or at a significantly reduced rate than non-county residents. I have no problem with SB County doing something similar here.

Instead of griping uselessly here on the Hat , get off your duffs and do something about it . Plan to be at the next Parks Commission hearing Aug. 16, 5:30 p.m. @ Planning Commission meeting room , 123 E. Anapamu St. across from the courthouse. At the very least email all the S.B. County Supervisors and express your opposition to beach access fees. Hopefully this link to the supes email addresses works for you . Come on people - get going on this before it's too late. http://www.countyofsb.org/bos/default.aspx?id=404

With the new license plate recognition systems, it wouldn't cost too much to have them at the parking lot entrance to look up the registration and verify the car is registered in SB County. If not, pay a fee at the automated kiosk. This might help reduce the incentive for those local residents driving cars registered out of state (you know who you are).

Right after they give the Miramar developer special tax breaks they discover that they are really short of funds? Their gift to Caruso is worth $15 million. Turning around and suggesting that they charge us for what is essentially beach access is disgusting, and violates the spirit, if not the letter, of the coastal code, which prohibits privatizing beaches. None of the county beaches I can think of is easily accessible to most residents by anything but a car.

What they learned is the public is always against paying for anything they used to get for free. Doesn't matter what it is. And here is another one for free: the public does not want to raise their taxes either. Moral of the story: the government has to stop handing out things for free and the public needs to stop being so greedy. Oh, that's right, the public is the government. Talk among yourselves. Leaders lead, and some times, often times this means going against the public selfishness and making decisions for the public good. Lesson two: people protest loudly when a price goes up a dollar. But then think you are exceedingly stingy if you only reduce the price a dollar. Same dollar -some times it is too much and some times it is too little. All subjective, which is why what the "public" is often the last person to listen to.
