Good thing we have about 47 CVS's to choose from. Nicer, cleaner, friendlier CVS's.

Roger you only like Rite Aid because it's close by. That Rite Aid next to Trader Joes on Milpas is a rat hole with absolutely miserable customer service. They all deserve a pay cut.

This is where unions become parasites. Demand more money, forcing the company to raise prices and making it less affordable for consumers to shop there. And about as smart as parasites too.

404 companies this large make a KILLING in profit every year. They *could* afford to give more, but why would they do that unless they're forced? Business is business, 99.9999% of the higher-ups couldn't care less about the individual workers. Welcome to the basis for the Occupy Movement...

404 until you work a union job..most of us who are union can't opt out so we are "stuck" with the decisions others make for us. I am not in the "Rite Aid" union but you have to understand the hundreds or thousands of union workers are represented by a small few and we don't necessarily agree with what they are "doing" for us but we have no choice to put up with it if we want to keep our jobs. I won't cross a union strike line ever in my life..I support my fellow union brothers and sisters - they are humans with families to support just like me. There is a cost to every decision and having low paying jobs and cheap products is not always the answer. Look at Walmart...

303412 - I'd go to a Walmart over a rat-hole like Rite-Aid any day. At least it's clean, the shelves are stocked, and you don't have to stand in line for 20 minutes.

I agree with many here, Rite Aid's are poor as compared to the old Long's, especially the year-after-year award winning store in, of all places, Buellton. That place was great! The Rite Aid here in Solvang is usually empty when I have to venture in for something. Fact is, a top notch, new, locally owned & managed pharmacy recently opened in Solvang, so now a Rite Aid visit is even more rare.

@ 377 - have you been to the Walmart in Oxnard? Talk about a rat hole. (And) I come from a union family. Remember the 5 month grocery strike? Really hurt my family and we had no choice. It was a forced lock out. Have some empathy for people trying to earn an honest wage. The company deserves the blame.

303429 - Silly question. Put ANYTHING in Oxnard and it immediately turns to crap. I'll shop in Ventura and Camarillo, but I will NEVER stoop so low as to shop in Oxnard. Both Targets in Ventura are perfectly fine for me. Unlike ALL THREE rat-hole Rite-Aids that we have in SB. I have no sympathy for a 100% unskilled grocery worker who, if they start at a PENNY over minimum wage, are grossly overpaid, but because they are in a union they get a lot more. There should be NO unions allowed for unskilled workers. Be happy that you have a job. And if you want more money, THEN GET A SKILL. And PLEASE don't start tellng me that grocery workers need ANY skills to perform their job. They don't.

303411p Thanks for telling us what the basis of the Occupy movement are.... btw Rite Aid has been losing money for years, it probably won't be around in 10 years being either swallowed up by another chain or closing. Its a competitive industry there is a reason Long's got bought out, Eckerd isn't around, etc. Decling profits or increased losses, competition from grocery stores and Walmart/Targets increases pressure on stores like Rite Aid to stay open. So they make a "killing" and they are part of the basis for Occupy? They actually lose money and I would hope the average occupier is not as ignorant as your statement.

303454P - 10 years? A heck of a lot sooner than that. Amazon will be building warehouses all over the place so people will be able to get same day delivery on goods. There's going to be a lot of brick and mortar stores closing then. Only the ones with superior customer service will most likely survive.

395, Here is an article that talks about why Amazon Same Day Shipping probably won't turn out to be a reality. At least not in anything more than large metropolitan areas, anyways. (Sidenote: Jeez, I hope that link works..)

3411... $29Million loss last quarter is hardly killing it by any stretch of an overactive imagination. It's been losing money for the last 4 quarters. For the last 3 years it's stock price has been hovering between 0.50$ and 1.50$, that's a penny stock. It's future projection of earnings per share is -186% (that's red) compared to the industry outlook of 21% EPS growth over the next 5 years. That spells dismal to me. I'm no company apologist but in a bad economy when EVERYONE, except Mittens and his merry band of 1%ers, is struggling to keep what they had last year these selfish louts want more at the expense of the rest of us. The company is no longer the bad guy when greedy union workers want the rest of us to make concessions for them. When the company goes into Ch11 I won't be feeling sorry for the rats who wanted more for themselves while the ship was sinking.

I heard that Amazon, in addition to its "same day delivery" warehouses, has also negotiated "freedom from local sales tax" as well. So they are not only undercutting the local businesses they are also undercutting the city and the state of California as well. Surprise! no income for anybody but themselves. Maybe I'll stick to local businesses as much as possible.

Actually 640, I posted an article with some contrary info regarding the same day delivery stuff yesterday evening. :) In addition, you have it backwards with regards to sales tax. Many states are actually just beginning to charge Amazon sales tax where they previously didn't, representing a lot of lost revenue.

All of this makes me miss Long's tremendously. If someone out there thinks CVS is cleaner than - well anywhere - might I point out that the first thing they did was to put CARPET in their pharmacies. You know, the stuff that can't be disinfected properly. In a place where sick people go to pick up their meds. #point made
